@Minette
I've been mulling over what kind of past my newest character should have. I have nearly every aspect of her fleshed out except for her backstory, and as a result, her personality is turning out to be a little flat without any past experiences to influence her.
I already know that I have no interest in giving her a family beyond her familiar (who is quite literally just a sentient cloud). She's meant to be isolated, mysterious, and naive of how society works. I even went as far as to say that she has trouble with verbal communication, reading, and writing skills. On top of all that, she's a (humanoid) kirin! Like most kirins, she's very peaceful, stoic, and almost hedonistic. Her greatest passions are life (animals, people, etc.), happiness, adventure, and magic.
She clashes with unempathetic, snarky, cold and calculated personalities. As a kirin, she has a vast and almost innate understanding of magic and the nature of the world, but on the same token one of her biggest flaws is a - lack - of understanding; careers, politics, money, authority, rules, society, and social structures are completely beyond her.
This character is designed for roleplay so I want to avoid backstories that assume too much about the world or limit other players (like saying she's the last kirin in existence). With all of that in mind, does anyone have tips or ideas?
