Ah, you have come to the right place! There are several LGBT+ authors here, like myself, who can help!
How would you write a straight relationship? Just focus on the fundamentals, like trust, support, communication, all the stuff you find in a normal relationship, and echo that! It's simple, really, focus less on the 'lesbian' part and more on the 'relationship' part.
Alright I’ll be sure to do that. Thanks for the help!
As someone who has experience in this field, it's the same as a straight relationship except we're scared to ask each other out at the beginning. I'm not sure about other LGBT+ people but I find that relationships start slowly (tend to be quite nervous at first) then once it progresses it's supportive and mutually beneficial.
Also, beanies and flannel shirts.
Not always. Plenty of lesbian women wear clothes that don't fit the stereotypes attached to their sexuality, and plenty of straight women will wear these items. I just want to warn people that stereotypes don't really make up characters, flaws, traits, and in-depth character development do.
No, I completely understand that. My apologies if it offended you, it was meant simply as an idea and not a rule for wlw characters. I'm basically the walking lesbian stereotype though so it just fits in well with what I know about creating a character like that. This isn't to say that everyone wears that or its wrong to have a different taste, it's just another dimension to add as the presence of stereotypes especially in a well developed character can force readers to look beyond that stereotype and into who the character really is. Eventually this could even lead to stereotypes being overlooked in real life too, but that's way in the future.
Stereotypes aren't needed for a character to be interesting, though, that's definitely not my message here. I only really said beanies and flannel shirts because they're great.
Yeah, they really are. Also, I would like to add that if it's in the future the level of discrimination is up to you but in modern day it tends to vary where you live, and in the past it gets progressively more looked down upon.
faceplants in
as a girl who is dating a girl I can tell you some things-
of course this is just from my experience and I don't speak for all relationships
and this is mostly just some cute things we do so idk, I hope it helps !!!
always wanting to just hold each other, hugs are a must for me and my girlfriend, any excuse for one is a good excuse
gifts for no reason or occasion, it just happens sometimes.
absolute gushing over each other to other people. just,, if they will listen,, they're gonna learn about hOW CUTE SHE IS!!!
"you're cuter than me" "that's a lie and you know it" -continue this argument for any length of time
any time either of us "adopts" any characters or friends, the other is always on board for being mom #2
being sad when she's gone. not like,, actual sadness, but missing them to the point of a kind of sadness?? (even if it's only been a few minutes)
"one day, if we get married-"
Basically write them the way you would any other couple, and you're great!
