  • A character from a wealthy family forced to come to terms with surviving the apocalyypse in one piece
  • A lower-class person (like a maid or a gas station worker) who uses their everyday gifts to survive

How about a ranger who served in the military and was still in service during the beginning of the apocalypse. He went AWOL to help out his family but was too late and now is a wanderer who is a mercenary who only helps the good people but mostly tries to avoid the radar. At this point he's about 50 and going grey but is still very capable. He doesn't want to help but grows a connection to the people he travels with and feels obliged since he can. I know it sounds generic but if you do it your own way it could work.

Perhaps a group leader who got their group killed (I know it sounds horrible) but the story is about him trying to overcome the(ir) flaws that resulted in the group's death and coming to terms with the grief and guilt. Just an idea for a twist!

Ok, but I really like this idea and it's something that I think about a lot. In a lot of post-apocalypse movies/books/tv shows that I've seen a lot of the characters have skills that make surviving really easy for them (like there's always like a doctor, or someone who served in the military who knows how to use weapons, etc). Like I want to see a post apocalyptic story where the main characters are a Pomeranian breeder, an art history professor, and a Starbucks barista or something and they're just like… doing their best.
