I kinda been inactive here, mostly out of laziness and looking back at my characters' profile, they're really bland, I got better at the Looks category, well thanks to Wattpad tutorials
but I have some trouble with the history and some parts Nature section
First with the nature section
I have some problem with describing some traits and sometimes it comes off a bit bland, I switched to the list format, which imo helped it looked more organized and helped me get it down better than in paragraph form
but at the same time, I get stuff that resembles textbook definitions
Then there are the mannerisms, which I just hate, I hate being critiqued on it, I hate writing them, they're kinda pointless, I kinda think this stuff should be shown in the book/or whatever brand of media and I know why it exists but still I find it annoying
And now my worst offender is my history section most of my characters backstory range from really short paragraphs and really long word walls, they're hard to write and they're even boring to write, here's an example, https://www.notebook.ai/plan/characters/741775#nature_panel
So have any tips
Hiya :)
Fleshing out characters shouldn't be stressful in the slightest. I mostly just ask my questions and think about how they would answer it. Other good thing I find in the incorrect character QUOTES thread, i use it to give characters more personality. Mannerisms I spent ages googling. It's basically just habits, things like speaking to quickly or jumping on the spot when standing still. There a heaps of websites that give lists of them (I can link some if you'd like). Another good thing is to watch other people. Even with YouTubers I find if you really pay attention to them you start to pick up on their mannerisms. Mannerisms don't have to be blocks of text, just remember it's your character, so you do what works best for you.
As for backstories, I find watching documentaries and draw my life's are really good inspiration, and don't be afraid to take notes from other people's characters to bulid on yours!
In other words, Rome wasn't built in a day. Creating characters may be easy but making the human is so much harder. Don't feel like you have to rush anything out, you work on your own time and do what is easiest for you. That being said, don't sit around and wait for the gods to give you a everything, look stuff up. Go on Google and weird third party websites for help. If you have a question, I can guarantee someone online has already answer it. Character sheets are everywhere, a simple type onto Pinterest gives you hundreds to pick from. This website is also littered with them, just click on a profile and check out their public characters, that's bound to spark some ideas
Cheers!
