Ok doki so one long story short one of my characters, Casper, gets the bones his right arm shattered beyond healing magic because ✨magical wars are fun✨ and ends up having it amputated. I haven't ever written a character like this before so is there anything I should know going into this territory? What recovery would be like? How long does it take to heal? Anything about prosthetic arms that I should know about like care or if he can't wear it all the time? I've heard things about phantom pains but i'm not exactly sure if its worth incorporating? Just anything and everything I should know!
Bumping this in behalf of Naomi, who has a tibial prosthesis.
Following because good question…
also if no one answers your best bet is to do some reasearch
I am neither a professional nor speaking from experience, but Amputee Coalition seems like a good source.
Thank you! I'll take a quick look and see what i can find
Well, I got the doctor is back.
First, Be respectful,
Second Ideally, the wound should fully heal in about four to eight weeks. But the physical and emotional adjustment to losing a limb can be a long process. Long-term recovery and rehabilitation will include: Exercises to improve muscle strength and control.
Third, Bionic arms work by picking up signals from a user's muscles. When a user puts on their bionic arm and flexes muscles in their residual limb just below their elbow; special sensors detect tiny naturally generated electric signals, and convert these into intuitive and proportional bionic hand movement. So, should the struggle with it
Fourth, phantom pains are a good thing to add because it gives more emotion
