"W-what? No," Maddie stammered. "It's just… it's nice to have a dependable rhythm… no matter how badly they treat me…" she averted her eyes, slightly embarrased.

"Well, then, welcome to the real world, then," he said with a shrug, turning around and starting to walk away again. "I hope you enjoy your stay."

"Wait… where will I go?" she asked, not sure why she was talking to Runner, but here she was. There was no turning back now.

"Anywhere, sweetheart," he called over his shoulder, sounding a bit more peeved. How long had it been since this girl had been free? "You got two legs don't you? Hell, you even got wings."

Maddie tilted her head, confused. "Anywhere?" she echoed, not fully grasping the meaning of his words.
