That's all lot more than I have. I know how you feel about the lack of inspiration. I honestly haven't been able to even look at my stories just because of the taunting cursor and blank page.

Colby

i like to spend my time creating characters and sometimes i feel like i have too many but they all play a vital part

@Reblod flag

I honestly couldn't even finish the first book
And I've never had to do that with a proper professionally edited and published novel

@Reblod flag

I actually read books in similar genre. High fantasy, science fiction. All that good stuff.

I liked it at first but as I went on I realised how much the characters strayed from what they should be. The main character is an assassin who went through intense training and now she's the most notorious assassin but I felt most of the time the author only used the title of an assassin and only used it as a plot point for convenience. Other than that the main character was a bit pathetic for a highly trained, dangerous assassin. I was fine with the fact that she liked dresses and fancy stuff but sometimes it just felt like the author was trying too hard to make her relatable which caused her to stray away from what the character actually was because not many people can relate to an assassin.
I also found the relationships and the other characters pretty underwhelming and a bit unrealistic. I get it's fantasy but if you have a fantasy world that makes no sense in reality then you can't understand it.

If you can't stand the characters you can't stand the story. Other than that I really liked the world and the plot and genuinely would have wanted to read it.

Do you mind if I pry a bit more into what your thinking about Celaena? Sorry, (I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, I am genuinely sorry to pry a bit, and just curious about your opinion) she’s my favorite character.

I just didn't think Celaena was pathetic. Chaol had wanted to make her seem pathetic in the challenges so she wasn't a target to the other players and you can really see how she was trained as an assassin when she went down in to the library and the other catacombs (not quite sure if you'd gotten there…(?)) I didn't think there was much harm in her liking music and such.

Colby

i had a friend who thought the same thing, but you really have to read to the second book to understand Celaena. i know it sounds stupid, but i totally get where youre coming from because i felt the same way at first. i love female characters who can kick ass, and felt that she was being under played, but after i finished the first one i liked it more, but you'll get a better feel for her in the second and third books.

@Reblod flag

Okay. Well saying pathetic was a bit dramatic. I get she has all those skills and she's holding back and I get she likes music and riches, that was actually something I liked about her. I think I can explain what I meant better. She's an assassin with great skills but I feel like in order to make her more relatable or likable some of the core traits of what an assassin would be were removed for certain plot points. I think it was 500 people who were killed at some point. It's a big number but an assassin who would be trained to kill and not care about taking life wouldn't care that much. It's also been a while so I can't recall everything.
Another thing that sort of bothered me was using Celaena's menstruation as an issue. I think that was around the area I stopped reading so I don't know if it actually affected the story but would an assassin really be that severely affected by it? If I remember, her mentor was pretty harsh so I doubt she would have been allowed to let it affect her.
The only reason it really bothered me was because it felt like a cheap way to make her relatable to a female audience and throw in a problem (don't know if there's a proper literature term for that) for the plot.

I don't think I will keep reading. It wasn't just Celaena and the writing surrounding her that bothered me but a lot of other things like that relationships and interactions etc

@Rvan group

Well then can you reccomend a good book to me? I've had an extremely difficult time finding a good book after reading SJM's series because even decent books are boring and lacking in comparison lol.

@Reblod flag

The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni has been my favourite series for a while. It's still in progress and I personally really enjoy it. I read on some reviews that people thought the internal dialogue or something was a bit childish for the character's age but that's only something I noticed after reading the reviews. It gets better as the author improves a bit after each book.
More high tech fantasy mixed with a little bit of classic medieval fantasy.

@Rvan group

I don't know… I haven't really been a Holly Black fan after I read "The Iron Trial" series, could you give me a small summary?, and for Royals, I'm really more into fantasy (or is it fantasy? I only read the description on goodreads)
Isn't Medoran Chronicles like Narnia and Harry Potter? I remember reading a little bit of it back when it came out, and I agree with that the narration sounded childish. I kinda thought it focused a bit too much on the school at times.

Colby

the cruel prince is about a human girl who is forced to live in the fairy realm with her twin and half sister who is half fae. Royals is about a girl whos sister gets engaged to the prince of scotland so she has to go there for the summer and the princes younger brother keeps dragging her into trouble

@Rvan group

Well, back to what we were talking about at the beginning, I totally think Abraxos is like Toothless for How to Train Your Dragon. And I love Fleetfoot. They are little cinnamon rolls <3

@Rvan group

Out of all the characters… oof… that's so hard… Abraxos is so adorable… Dorian is amazingly well developed… but Rowan is just Rowan… Yet Aelin is so bad-ss…
Probably Aelin because she’s such a complex character and her plans are spectacular yet devastating, but Rowan is a close second and Dorian is a close third lol
Who’s your fav?

Colby

i love Aelin so much so shes first and probably rowan next bc i loved their dynamic in the third and fourth book and then Lorcan bc i know he has the capability to redeem himself and i am 100% Elorcan trash
