OK so when I was in Grade 5 (roughly 11 i think), I read this book series and really enjoyed it.
I'd didn't belong to me: it belonged to one of my mum's friends.
I've recently wanted to re-read the series, but I cannot for the life of me remember the title nor the author's name.
However, I do remember some details from the books.
I believe that the book series had either 5 or 6 books, maybe only 4 (it's been 5 years, guys)
One of the book covers was definitely maroon red.
I know that the main plot of the first book (that was obviously incorporated into the other books) was that a bunch of teens received something that invited them to play a game that hadn't been released. It was kind of a 'Willy Wonka and the Golden Tickets' sort of situation, but Willy Wonka was called Mr Q (im sure he had more of the name but i dont remember it).
The main character was an orphan and 'randomly' received this. He was an orphan and had to escape the orphanage in order to go, and he was chased by people. He arrived at night in the pouring rain and climbed the fence around the manor (which i think was called Q Manor) in order to get in. The other kids were already there and Mr Q got him like dry and stuff.
The next day, Mr Q showed the kids what they were there for. He'd created this fantasy world, but bad stuff was happening to it, and the teens were there to save it. They had been chosen for particular reasons, and that became obvious as the story progressed.
Mr Q became a father figure to the MC and there was a romantic subplot between the MC and another one of the kids.
The teens basically went back and forth between reality and this world and did stuff.
I know that in one of the books, they had to reach the top of this tower. In order to do that, they had to go through a bunch of levels, and each level had a different problem (snakes, bats, etc).
I literally tried searching for like an hour and came up with nothing.
That's why I'm turning to here, as someone might be able to help me better.
I'm pretty sure that I would know it if I saw the title or the cover.
