NovelGens is an experimental project that generates names, descriptions, and images for new and interesting fictional creatures – and then gives away ownership of those creatures to anyone who wants to use them in their own worlds or projects.

A couple of weeks ago I added the ability for writers to add stories they've written about and have those stories featured on the official canon pages, and today I just added the ability for artists to draw their own depictions of creatures and publish them on creature pages also. Art added gets shown alongside the official art, and ranks higher when you get kudos for each piece.

If browsing a bunch of fictional creatures and/or drawing them and/or adopting weird creatures into your projects sounds fun, feel free to head on over to NovelGens and give it a try. There are no size or space limits on the art you can upload and your full gallery also gets shown on your profile over there.

Also, if anyone has any advice or feedback on making the experience better for authors, please do let me know here! :)

I love the progress you have made with NovelGens. The creatures are getting so realistic looking! I’m glad they aren’t so abstract anymore. Honestly, the creatures are absolutely incredible.
A few things that might make NovelGens better is a voting system on what the next creature could be like. Being able to add or change tags by vote would be great too! Being able to “unclaim” creatures would be handy. I have claimed creature that I no longer want and some that I didn’t want in the first place aka accidentally.
I’m curious what other generators you are working on. Would you be able to share?
I have an idea for another cool creature generator: Mounts(creatures specifically for riding).
Thanks for all your hard work!
