Hey all!

The first release of 2022 is a smaller one while I work through the Holiday Backlog of Bugs. There's a whole lot of assorted bugs and various improvements in this release, but here are a few notable mentions:

  • Almost every image across the entire site has been optimized for less bandwidth and faster loading with no loss in quality, thanks to work from @dp-wes. Many images are at least 90% smaller in size!

  • You can now mass-edit the names of your tags in your Tag Manager. Just type a new name for a tag and it'll automatically update your tagged pages to use that new tag instead.

  • If you add a timeline to a shared universe, it will now be visible to universe collaborators. They'll be able to view the timeline but not edit it.

  • New threads on the forums now automatically ping our Discord so more eyes should see new discussions

  • The default School page template now includes a field for student headcounts.

  • I'm experimenting with a basic spam filter that should start auto-flagging spammers and hiding their posts without anyone needing to report them. I'm erring on the side of caution with it now, but I'll be monitoring it and ramping it up as I catch more spammers to be guinea pigs with. :)

  • Some hardware changes should make database lookups even faster (making most pages faster to load) and future-proof us for all of 2022

I'm continuing to work through all our features requests and a couple remaining bug reports, but after that I'm excited to get back to bigger features soon. In other news, NovelGens had a successful launch this week, and the ShelfOfTales beta is going great so far. 2022 is already shaping up to be a really exciting year for new kinds of writing tools and I can't wait to get into the thick of it!

Happy worldbuilding!

Quick follow-up on this: I'm doing a little mid-day release that also fixes a bug on timelines where adding private notes to a timeline would cause the page to crash when a collaborator viewed it. This release fixes that, plus only shows your timeline's "notes" field to collaborators; not the "private notes" field.
