Aithrel is the material that all Tek are so reliant on. It seems to also be a force of its own, as it changes the environment where it gathers the most. Cracks may form in the earth where Aithrel seeps out of.

Aithrel is harmless enough to walk through in its natural state, even for someone without the Gift. A person with the Gift can manipulate it to heal their allies or themselves. But it can be very destructive.

Most, if not all Tek weaponry use Aithrel in some form. Some weapons require the presence of Aithrel in the user to activate.

When fired as a projectile, Aithrel becomes dangerous, especially to non users. Aithrel burns the surrounding tissue if it hits your skin, though people with the Gift can avoid this — not that it won’t hurt. It acts as an invading force to the body of a non Aithrel user, meaning some people who manage to survive getting hit may fall sick, the symptoms being similar to radiation sickness but no presence of radiation is detected. Most people who get ‘Aithrel sickness’ do not recover. Not all people who get shot by Aithrel get sick, the reason of this is unknown.

AITHREL SICKNESS SYMPTOMS IN NON AITHREL USERS

- taste of iron in mouth

- initially numb sensation on area of wound, but progresses to a sharp burn that is enough to put people out of commission from the pain alone

- reddening of the eye whites

- eventual coughing blood

- slow rotting of the skin around the wound

- radiation like symptoms

It is known that if the person has a chance at survival, it is through someone with the Gift who has put a lot of effort into mastering their healing skills. Their Aithrel can combat the negative Aithrel within the person’s body.

AITHREL SICKNESS IN AITHREL USERS

- same sort of numbness initially in wound area, soon progresses to a burning pain but said to not be as severe as non users

- slight reddening of the eye whites

- mild taste of iron in mouth

- headache, dizziness 

Aithrel users tend to survive the sickness at a far higher rate than non users. Ultimately, you will not recover from an Aithrel shot to the brain or any vital area.

AITHREL OVERUSE SYMPTOMS

Uniquely people with the Gift can still suffer from a one of a kind illness. Known as Aithrel overuse, it occurs when the body has been strained too much by the use of Aithrel.

It is known that people with the Gift have Aithrel flowing practically all through their body, even through vitals such as the heart, and especially the brain. Overuse symptoms may not occur all at once. They may restrict to more mild symptoms if the overuse is minor.

- dizziness, foggy memory

- fatigue

- sore/dry throat

- loss of senses such as smell or bits of eyesight. Temporary in mild to fair cases, potentially permanent in the most severe

- fever in more severe cases

- brain damage in the most severe of cases along with other vital organs

- nosebleeds

Aside from Tek and humans, Aithrel is not known to manifest in anything else.
