Chapter 09: Reunion

Natalia was helping Kiara unpack as she was accommodating herself. "This should be a fun experience. You'll be like the little sister I never had." said Kiara. Natalia smiled and continued to help. "I'm glad to be of help. But are you sure you're okay?" Kiara kept smiling as she unpacked. "Of course. This'll all be over and my family will be safe. We've come back from worse, surely this won't be the end of us." Kiara's smile started to break a little and became more somber. "I guess I should really thankful to Caesar. If not for him, we wouldn't have been able to save my brothers. And they might've been-" Kiara's voice started to crack and she covered her mouth. Natalia rushed to embrace her. "There's no need to worry about that. They're safe now. And we're gonna make sure they stay that way." Kiara returned the embrace, feeling secure thanks to her friend's words.

Cain was sitting in his office, staring at the dagger in his hand. He started to flashback to when he was a little kid getting in his dad's car. "Hey dad. I got a 96% on my math test!" "Hahaha. That's my boy!" They arrived at the library and his dad resumed work there while he was sitting at a table studying. The next day, he was in the hallway when he saw a boy trying to hit on a girl, only for the girl to walk away. He shrugged his shoulders and kept walking on by. "Dude, isn't that the 4th girl you've tried asking out?" asked Cain. "Actually, 6th. But I don't let stuff like that stop me. Hey, I'm Caesar Rossi." said Caesar as he extended his hand that Cain accepted. "My name is Cain Thomas."

Cain was reminiscing about the past when Seth walked in. "You know it still astounds me how you let something like that happen." said Cain. "Give me a break. I didn't expect her to be ready for my assault. Normally, when it's 1:25, people are usually asleep if their job requires them to work through the day. Who do you need me to kill? Kiara's family?" "Don't bother trying. According to Zoocreeper, it's as if they've left town. I was hoping we could take advantage of the information Zoocreeper provided us, but it seems not. I really need you to kill these guys so we can focus on our objective. Here's my plan." Outside, Caesar was mopping the floor listening in. He delivered a text to Kiara to tell her about the next step in Cain's plan.

The next day, Corbin and Andrew were in the parking lot walking to work together. They arrived at the room and saw Kiara and Natalia ready to disclose some serious news. "What's Caesar told you about now?" asked Andrew. "Cain plans on using Seth to acquire a weapon." said Kiara. "How does he plan on doing that?" asked Andrew. "He's going to capture civilians and hold them hostage." said Natalia.

"Apparently, Cain came up with the plan and frankly, I'm not surprised. Still, we need to find a way to not go about this haphazardly." said Kiara. "How do we beat him though? The last time we fought, I almost died." said Corbin. "Maybe we don't need to fight him." said Andrew. "What do you mean?" asked Natalia. "I'm pretty sure someone else might want a shot at him." "Oh yeah, that's right." said Corbin.

Andrew and Corbin went to the room of The Colony and saw Lucas and Dawn going over paperwork. "Where's Justin and Ciro?" asked Andrew. "They're in the break room again." said Dawn. "Well, I hope you guys aren't too busy because there's someone about to commit a crime that I think you guys might be interested in." said Corbin. Lucas and Dawn put a stop to what they were doing. "Do you mean him?" asked Lucas. "Who else?" asked Andrew.

The Colony arrived at the construction site and Seth spotted them while rather surprised. "Hey, it's been a long time, hasn't it team? Who's the new guy?" "His name is Lucas Morrison and he's a way better leader than you could ever be!" yelled Justin. Seth backed away with his hands up. "My, my. Where's this coming from? You weren't like this before." Dawn noticed all of the soldiers who were pointing their guns to the hostages and got Justin to notice as well. "It really has been a long time. I don't recall that missing eye." said Dawn. "Call it a failed mission. Hey, here's an idea. How about you guys join up with me? Admittedly, I don't know much about the other guy, but you're all incredibly capable people. It'll be just like the good ol' days." "Back in the 'good ol' days', you weren't a psychopathic monster who'd kill innocents just to get the job done. How could we ever go back to those days!?" yelled Justin. He created drones that flew over and knocked out the soldiers by blasting them. The drones proceeded to destroy the restraints, allowing the hostages to leave. "Can't have hostages around to see what we're gonna do to you, now can we?" asked Justin. "Clearly you forgot about when I tested my powers." said Seth. "What's he talking about?" asked Lucas. "He shot his vibrations 57 km in the sky and it was a 5.5 magnitude. I remember since he made me record it. But that's completely irrelevant!" said Justin.

Seth shrugged his shoulders and fired a vibration blast at them. They got knocked back, but were able to get up, much to Seth's surprise. "The hell? If you're not dead, you should at least be neutralized!" "Justin here made us some earbuds that lessen the power of your vibrations." said Madelyn. "Remember when you beat me in training and I said I'd find a way to beat you? This is it." said Justin. Seth couldn't help but smile and laugh. "You really have grown! Alright, come on! I wanna see what you guys are capable of!" said Seth. Justin created little drones that hovered around him that fired energy bolts at Person. He made a vibration bubble to block. Lucas got behind and fired an energy disc at him. He dodged with ease. "Don't tell me this guy's my replacement."  Justin summoned a mini satellite on his wrist and fired a blast that Seth blocked with his abilities. "Oh yeah. You're definitely an old teammate of mine!" Seth made a vibration bubble underneath Justin's foot, launching him up into the air. He collected himself by making rocket boosters beneath his feet and landing safely. Justin's drones kept firing at Seth, who blocked with vibrations. Dawn launched Sakura petals at him that he dodged. He ran in to punch her but was tripped by a small cloud.

Back at the base, Corbin tapped Kiara. "What do you need?" "Can we train? There's a skill I want to learn and only you can teach me." "Sure thing. Let's go." Corbin and Kiara went to the training room. "Alright. What do you want me to teach you?" asked Kiara. "I want to be able to control my own shadow. Given the use of your Factor, you're the only one I know who can help me." Kiara smiled and got a little excited. "Of course! I'll do what I can to help you. First things first, manifest your shadow." Corbin reached out his hand and tried, but to no avail. "Is something wrong?" asked Kiara. "Well, all the darkness I've controlled has been that which I've created. I don't have much experience controlling preexisting darkness." "I see. Ok, think of it like this. Even if the darkness wasn't made by your abilities, it is YOUR shadow. That means, in a sense, you did make it. Use that philosophy to see if you can do it." Corbin gave it a shot and sure enough, he was able to raise his shadow from the ground. He was absolutely amazed and Kiara clapped.

"Still as creative as ever, Nino." He got up, only to feel his head between two clouds. They released a great roar due to being small thunderclouds. They formed into one cloud which flashed great lightning in front of him, blinding him. Morrison created an energy disc and fired, but Seth generated a vibration bubble to block the disc, which nearly cut through before dissipating. "See that. Your dirty tricks would make you wonderful allies to aid me." "Do you honestly expect us to just go along with your delusions? Unlike you, we'd actually lose sleep if we did what you do." said Ciro. Seth got a feeling and blocked Sakura petals that were flying towards him with a vibration shield. "Not bad, Dawn. Is it just me or are the petals much faster?" "Justin gave my earbuds the additional feature of playing classical music, which allows my petals to move faster." She surrounded him in a tornado of petals to blind him while also having some strike him. Drones flew in from inside and fired many shots at Person. Ciro created a large thundercloud in the air during the distraction. Once the petals dispersed, the lightning bolt struck Seth. "Looks like the wait was worth it." said Dawn.

Corbin stood facing his shadow. He couldn't help but be amazed that he managed to pull this off. He went to touch its face, but the Shadow touched Corbin's face. As a result, Corbin retracted his hand back and the shadow did the same. "It seems this thing mimics your every move. Try to get it to do something else." said Kiara. "How?" asked Corbin. "You know how you're able to think about what you'd want your body to do, but you don't do it? Basically, the idea I'm trying to convey is the equivalent of thinking and visualizing about moving your fingers, but you don't actually do it. Try doing that." Corbin stood still and his shadow jumped in the air. "Alright, nice!" Kiara gave Corbin a high five.

Seth got back up, still reeling to fight. "No way! You should be finished!" said Justin. "Actually, just before the lightning hit, I moved slightly to the left to lessen the amount of my body that would be overall affected." The Colony was unnerved by this revelation. "Guess it does make sense. It's not like you can become a Commodore just because people say so." said Justin. "I must say, this fight has truly been enjoyable. I really have missed you guys. That said, I want to engage against him." said Seth pointing to Lucas. "What do you want with your better version?" asked Justin. "He's your leader, right? If he is my 'better version,' I'd like to verify that." Ciro got winds ready but Lucas put his arm in front. "Don't worry. I can take this guy."

Lucas fired many discs that Seth managed to block with his shield. He ran in close and delivered a punch to his missing eye. "Avoiding hits out of one's depth perception is standard Convocation training. But that doesn't mean you're suddenly used to fighting with only one eye!" Seth threw many punches at Lucas but he avoided every blow attempted. "Even if it didn't incapacitate you, Ciro's lightning bolt definitely did a number on you. Along with the Factors of Justin and Dawn." He tried to knee Seth, only to be blocked by a vibration shield. He grabbed Lucas' head with both hands and focused a vibration bubble around it. However, Lucas countered by summoning two discs to sandwich Seth's neck. Due to the blood flow being interfered with, Seth's vibrations got weaker before Lucas kneed his ribs and punched him out.

As Seth regained consciousness, he saw that he was imprisoned in Debilitrum cuffs. "Hehe. I'm really proud of you guys. You too, Lucas." Justin got really mad and was about to punch him when Madelyn caught him. " I really mean it. After all, you guys were my old teammates. That's not something I can change. And after the way you guys fought, I wouldn't want to." Justin decided to put his fist down and turn away. "Thanks. We may be enemies, but you are still Commodore level. There's no reason to disregard that." said Justin. "I get the feeling Andrew sent you here because he knew this was something you guys would've wanted, right?" "Yeah, something like that." said Ciro. "Figures. With me gone, I seriously doubt Pardus will last long against these guys. He wanted me to kill them because they're becoming way too much of a hassle. I can't imagine what tricks he'll try to pull. Still, how did Andrew even know what I was doing? It's not like tracking my location would reveal my intent. Eh, whatever." said Seth. He was pushed into the back row. "Hey guys. If you're not gonna join me, then make sure you stand out as a team that never loses. You can run away if necessary, but don't embarrass me by losing. If someone ever beats you guys, he's gotta be very strong, you hear me?" Ciro smiled a little. "Yeah, of course." "It's clear I've got big shoes to fill." said Lucas.

In Cain's office, he kept stabbing holes into his walls. Gilroy walked inside only to start leaving. "Don't even think about it." said Cain. Gilroy stopped and sighed. "Scars hasn't answered any of my calls! I think he got incarcerated. How!?" "Sir, you need to calm down. It's unbecoming of a leader to panic." said Gilroy. "We just lost the best guy we had in this whole damn company and we've got two capos left! How the hell am I supposed to not panic?!" Listen, these people seem very intent on taking you down. How about instead of running away, you confront them directly?" asked Gilroy. "It isn't just that. Somehow, they also knew about Cage Sage and Zoocreeper's kidnapping scheme, but how? They must have a mole on the inside. I want you to take the phones of every single soldato and check their call histories." said Cain. "We have over 100 soldiers in our company. You want to go through every single one of them? Look, clearly, you're acting too irrational. I think the best course of action is simply to confront them." said Gilroy. "No, wait. We don't need to check all of our soldiers. We just need to check our one janitor!" yelled Cain.

Cain called Caesar up. "Did you accidentally spill grape juice again?" asked Caesar. "I know you've been undermining me. You think you can get away with this?" asked Cain. "What are you talking about? Look, my shift is over. Can I relax at home in peace?" asked Caesar as he hung up. Cain threw his phone which was still intact and screamed. "I really, really don't want to confront these people. Otherwise, there's a chance I'll lose. Damn you, Caesar." said Cain.
