Chapter 05: When Dark and Light Collide

Pardus and Crocodile were in a gym and started sparring. Crocodile threw many punches to the face that Pardus blocked. Pardus retaliated with an uppercut that staggered Crocodile before delivering a huge blow towards Crocodile's chest, staggering him. Pardus closed in immediately and started punching Crocodile's face many times before knocking him to the ground. Pardus then helped him and took him to a bench to relax. As Pardus and Croc were sitting on a bench, they were approached by Gilroy. "You guys okay? He looks a little roughed up." said Gilroy. "Don't worry about it. Just standard training. What's up?" asked Pardus. "Are you doing ok? Your company's been losing important people." said Gilroy. "Ah, don't worry about a thing. If Snow Biz can pull this off, we'll be more than capable of any monetary recovery." said Pardus.

Kiara was over at her parents' house, eating Fettucine Alfredo with them and her little brothers. "So, Dante. How's things with your girlfriend?" asked Kiara. "Things are going pretty well. I'm actually gonna have dinner with her parents tomorrow." "That's wonderful. If all goes well, she'll be a very lucky woman. Still haven't found anyone, Manlio?" said Kiara. "Not yet, but hey. There's always hope. said Manlio. "I'm more than certain that any girl with you will be incredibly lucky. As long as she can bear your snoring." said Kiara. "True. If she can do that, she's a keeper." said Dante.

"Kiara, how have things been going with your job? How has the investigation been going?" asked her dad. "Relatively well. We've been arresting their enforcers left and right and haven't suffered any serious casualties. That said, there's something that's been bugging me. I recently interrogated one of their enforcers and he told me that the boss, Pardus, took the organization 6 years ago from a man named Abramo Rossi because of his son, Caesar." "I can tell that things have been different. Now, you all know how much I hate him, but at least he didn't order the deaths of innocent people." said her dad. "Kiara, aren't you worried that you're getting too deep into this?" asked her mom. "Mamma, don't worry. I'll be fine. I always have been, after all." "There's nothing to worry about, mom. Nothing can keep her down for very long." said Manlio. "I think your mother's right to be concerned. After all, it is hard to forget about that time." said Papa. Kiara stopped and remembered the event in question. "I know. But it's not like that anymore." "Still, because of his son? Did they have bad blood or something?" asked Dante. "Maybe. Then again, it does make sense that a Mafia boss' son would have enemies." After dinner, Kiara hugged her parents. She then hugged her brothers and gave each of them a kiss on the cheek before driving off and leaving.

After a hard day's work, a man went to his car only to find two men standing near it and his two guards killed. He turned and ran away, only to be stopped by a bright light. "Glad to see we got your attention. Good work, men." said a voice. The voice revealed himself and was holding the light in his hand. "Who are you?" asked the man. "Call me Snow Biz. Anyways, don't worry. I'm not here to kill you. I'm just here to propose a suggestion. Surrender the Hard Rock Casino to us." "What makes you think I'm going to just comply to that?" Snow Biz took out a knife and cut his cheek. "If I wanted, that piece of flesh would've been your throat. I'll give you three days to wise up. Oh, and I hope you realize what'll happen if you tell anyone, right? But before I go, I'd like your phone number so we can keep in touch." After receiving the man's number, Snow Biz emitted a bright light, granting him and his men the opportunity to escape unseen.

The next day, The Swarm was inside their room eating ravioli together. "Wow, this food tastes so wonderful. How have I never heard of this restaurant?" asked Corbin. "I'm sure my uncle would appreciate your regards." said Kiara. Corbin just put some ravioli in his mouth when he stopped. "Your uncle made this?" "He's the owner of the restaurant. My mom could've owned the restaurant alongside him, but she preferred to cook for a family than for strangers." "Say, what do your parents do?" asked Andrew. "Eh, it's really not a big deal what they do." Corbin tried to take another bite, but it was already empty. "That's fine. You don't have to tell us if you don't want to." said Natalia.

Crocodile was at Seth's house, sparring in his backyard. They matched punches and kicks with each other, almost seemingly even. However, once Crocodile got a hit on his rib, he refused to relent as he unleashed a barrage of punches towards Seth's face. However, Seth elbowed his punch and delivered a chop to his neck before palming him to the ground. "Impressive. You immediately took notice of a vulnerability of mine and capitalized on it." "What can I say? You make for a very effective teacher."

Corbin was facing Natalia in the training room. "Thanks for offering to help me. I wanna make sure I'm warmed up to help Lupa." Natalia created a staff of fire and ran to strike him; he was able to block her attacks and fired multiple dark bolts at her. She deflected each of them with her staff before turning it into a mace. She kept trying to hit Corbin, who dodged all her attacks. He immediately made a gesture with his hands signaling to stop and she ceased.

"Thanks a lot. I really like training with you." he said. "No problem. Lupa's very lucky to have you for herself." Corbin laughed. They shook hands and just as Corbin was about to twist the doorknob, he stopped himself. "Hey, you guys have had prior teammates, right?" he asked. "Yeah. What do you wanna know?" "Was there one that you guys consider to be the best?" "Indeed. His name is Drake Lister, but we call him Benbow. He's currently a Commodore right now. He was so amazing and lovely. Honestly, I consider him the reason why we're so good moreso than the Academy." Corbin smiled. "Good. Good. I'm very glad to hear all that." He left the room to help Kiara.

Kiara was walking in an alleyway with a small dragonfly hovering near her. The dragonfly noticed a trade between two men involving drugs and money. She opened her mouth, releasing bioelectricity in the form of a snake in order to tie the two men up. She stopped walking and faced them. "I'm keeping you here because it's my job. But you're the more fun one. Now tell me, you work as a soldier for the Pardus Crime Family, right?" "Yeah, what do you want?" "The capo you work for. I'd love to meet up with him. Alone." said Kiara. "Why should I tell you? You don't deserve any information regarding my boss." said the man.

The goon arrived to Snow Biz who was supervising his men making drugs. "Boss, there's a Convocation agent who wants to meet with you at 7:30 p.m tonight alone." "Or?" "Or she'll come prepared with dozens of agents as backup." "I see. What distinguishing features did she have?" "She was rather tall. In fact, I think taller than you. She also had red hair and she wore some sort of detective getup." "Everyone, I'll have to ask that you stay overtime." We'll need to prepare for an all-out attack." Snow Biz took out his phone and made a call. "Hey, Zoocreeper. I need you to come here so you can do me a favor."

Andrew knocked on the door of the Director's office. "Come in." said the director. Andrew opened the door and saw the Director sitting in his chair looking over papers. "Director Watson. I hope you're not too busy." Watson got up, walked towards Andrew, and pointed his cane at his face. Watson chuckled and turned around. "What do you need, son?" "I'm really worried about Ombre considering how his last mission went." "So that's his nickname, huh? I understand why you're concerned but don't fret. Trust me when I say this kid has potential." He put his hand on Andrew's shoulder and went back to his seat.

Kiara and Corbin showed up to the alleyway ready to face Snow Biz, only to find a goon instead. "Where's your dozens of agents you bragged about? My boss was all set to take them on." said the goon. Kiara took out her gun and shot him in the chest, killing him. "What does he mean 'dozens of agents?' You only brought me." said Corbin. "Yeah, I fed him lies." "Why would you do that? Now there's probably dozens of goons to deal with." said Corbin. "The most powerful weapon in the human arsenal is information. Now that they've overestimated us, they'll be far too prepared and taken by surprise. Besides, your tentacles and light absorption skills should be able to let me take on their leader."

After using their phones to track the location, Kiara and Corbin pulled up to what appeared to be a closed billiards place. Corbin made a key of darkness and opened the door. It was dark inside, but Corbin stopped Kiara. He could see what was inside and saw many armed men. Corbin's face expressed worry as he knew what they were firing and manifested tentacles to grab all the goons and repeatedly slam them into each other, knocking them out. "Enerifles, huh? Guess it makes sense. The ammo may be weaker and slower due to using plasma instead of light, but it also means I can't absorb it. I guess Person decided to squeal to everyone about what I can do." said Corbin.

Snow Biz turned on the lights and revealed himself. "Well, now. This is unprecedented. I was expecting a dozen agents to swarm me, not two." Kiara created a huge elephant that sprayed electricity from its trunk at Snow Biz, who blocked with a shield of light.

Snow Biz smiled and clapped. "You truly are a fascinating woman." said Snow Biz. He fired a beam of light from his hand that she dodged. "May I ask that we move elsewhere? I don't want to risk ruining the equipment. Crocodile would get mad. After all, this is his favorite hangout spot." "Oh, please. Don't give me that excuse. Everything here is covered in Azoigen. That stuff makes inorganic material way tougher than normal. Tough enough to withstand anything we throw at it." said Kiara. "It seems my powers are a perfect counter to his." said Corbin.

Kiara created a bioelectric horse that kicked him with its hind legs. However, he blocked using a shield of light. He felt his left foot sink into the ground a bit. Kiara took advantage and delivered a running punch with her fist covered in a bioelectric wolf claw, knocking him to the floor. A bioelectric mole popped up from the hole. It turned into a rabbit and jumped 4 feet into the air before landing on his head. He got up while holding his head and launched three bolts of light at Kiara that Corbin absorbed.

Snow Biz opened his mouth, releasing a bright flash of light that blinded Kiara. He went after Corbin who fired darkness at him. However, he exuded a bright aura that not only evaporated his dark attack, but also blinded Corbin. He began to start punching Corbin in the face. He first delivered a right hook, jab, and uppercut. He was about to deliver a solid punch when Corbin caught his punch, surprising him. "Makes sense that scum like you are surprised that people can fight back." said Corbin.

A bioelectric ape was moving towards him, so he tried to fire a laser. However, Corbin's hand was covered in darkness that was absorbing photons from Snow Biz. One of his men got up and saw the predicament his boss was in so he got up and pushed Snow Biz out of the way before falling unconscious again. Corbin released his hold beforehand and saw how dedicated this man was. Snow Biz created flashes of light in front of Corbin and Kiara to blind them. However, while Kiara was blinded, Corbin could still see due to creating little shadows in his eyes. He delivered a push kick before closing in to deliver a haymaker to his face. Snow Biz grabbed his strike and emitted a bright light from his face.

The light was so intense that Corbin struggled to maintain the integrity of the shadows on his eyes. Snow Biz covered his fist in light before throwing a punch directly towards his jaw. However, he surrounded his head in a dome of darkness that consumed his light. "But how?" "Did you think my eyeshadow was just to prevent blindness? I was able to absorb enough light from that to create this shield in the first place." "There's no way. I produced so much light. How could those little spots absorb such a vast amount?" "It's called focus."

Corbin put all of the absorbed light into a fist and threw a swift uppercut that Snow Biz backstepped. However, he was caught by a bioelectric bear Kiara created. He tried to emit a bright light, but Corbin was able to absorb it. He moved in closer and proceeded to place the Debilitrum cuffs on him.

"Alright, what is the Factor of your boss?" asked Kiara. "I've got no reason to tell you anything." Snow Biz was squeezed by the bear and electrocuted at the same time. "Sure about that?" asked Kiara. "Why do you even want to know? Do you plan on fighting him? You'll just die trying. He's not the kind to let enemies get close to him. Not without consequence, anyways." Kiara felt a twinge of happiness from hearing that. "Are you saying that he's an incredibly dangerous man?" asked Kiara. "Death will be your fate if you try to cross him directly." "Well, I happen to have a history of escaping brushes with death. So I think I'll be fine." "Even if you're fine, what about your protege? Do you really want to risk your life against my boss just to leave him all alone?"

Kiara did nothing but smile at his statement. "Ok, you clearly don't seem to understand anything about me. I've dealt with you criminal types before I even joined this organization, ok? He'll be just fine under my tutelage." She proceeded to grab his face. "But hey, if you think your boss is that scary, that's your opinion." She began walking with the bear still holding him." Corbin texted the Convocation where they were and the amount of people to arrest and proceeded to follow Kiara and grab her shoulder. "What you said about surviving brushes with death constantly, you really are confident in that skill, aren't you?"

Kiara's bear squeezed Snow Biz tighter and she punched him, knocking him out. "Look. You don't need to be scared for me, okay? I promise you I will stay alive to help you with anything you need. Trust me, I really don't like the idea of letting down someone I'm supposed to look after and leaving them in harm's way." said Kiara.

The following night, Zoocreeper was sitting at a table outside a restaurant eating Grape Pie with french fries. He made a call to Pardus. "Hey, boss. The Hard Rock Casino's all ours." "Shouldn't Snow Biz be reporting this? What's going on?" asked Pardus. "He wanted me to take care of it should he get arrested. Since he didn't text me, I figured out what happened to him. Also, I learned the address of one of the Convocation Agents who's been fighting us." Pardus' face lit up with joy. "Perfect. I want you to follow this agent and find out if they have any living family. They won't be messing with us anymore."
