The Rise of Sha’grin

Upon returning to the base defeated, Shen reflects on his battle with his brother, contemplating what to tell his superior, Sha’grin. Raptor greets him whilst he enters the chamber. Surrounded by his feathered friends, Raptor approaches him with a stern smile.

“You failed, didn’t you Shimura?”

“Shut up, Raptor. I don’t want to hear one of your stupid lectures.”

“So you did fail after all, I see. So fiery today, I see. A word of advice for you, Shen?”

“What?!”

“I suggest you tone down those emotions before speaking to your superior. Wouldn’t want you to say something you’ll regret later.”

“Oh, it’s quite alright Raptor. I don't mind at all.” A disembodied voice suddenly filled the room and with a blink of an eye, the candles went out and a pair of smoky, electrified eyes appeared in front of them.

“Why hello, Shen. Raptor tells me that your mission to the Arctic went awry", the voice said. Sha’grin’s voice echoed through Shen’s skull, causing him to clutch his head in agony. Shen attempted to regain himself as best he could, though his brain was still throbbing from his lord’s haunting words.

“Forgive me, Lord Djinn,” Shen said with bowed eyes and a grimace.” I won’t let-”

“Let it happen again, Shen? That’s what you were going to say right?”

“Yes.”

“I see. Humor me, Shimura. What did happen on your mission that caused you to fail? You are one of the best in your field. So, please indulge me. Don’t spare any details.”

“As you wish, Lord Djinn.” Shen began to tell the story of his mission to the Arctic and his run-in with his brother and the Science Corps.

“So, let me get this correct, little hawk. You went to the Arctic to check on operations at our base and ran into the Science Corps?”, Raptor said.

“Yes.”

“And in doing so, you ran into your brother? The same brother that you said that you didn't have?”

“Look, Raptor. I don’t have to explain myself and my decisions to you, so I suggest-

“Now, Shen.” Sha'grin turned to face me,” I understand your decision to keep this information from us but that is no way to speak to your elder.”

"Sorry, Lord Djinn."

"It is quite alright, Shen. Just mind your tone next time."
