A Rough History & Description of Avalon
by @Pep

History

The star cluster of Avalon was claimed around 220 years ago by Argos Avryss. Along with his wife Mavella Avryss, Argos brought along 124 other aliens to inhabit Avalon. These first settlers would be known as the 'Nephilim' or 'Nephs' for short.

After the Nephilim came the Prissies, named for how they had to enter Avalon. Due to its richness in resources, people from neighboring clusters were looking to enter Avalon for work. Knowing this demand, Argos put in place a handsome fee, and, if not paid, any entering ships were met with violence.

The fee remained in place and proper punishments were dealt until Argos passed away, passing on leadership of the cluster to Mavella. Under her word, the fee was lifted, but the entry of new people, the Common Folk, remained low.

Major locations

The Hub

The Hub refers to a group of planets where the majority of Avalon's inhabitants live and work. The Hub has the highest average technological level amongst its planets, so newcomers to Avalon feel most comfortable here.

Planets within the Hub are: Avela Prime, Asha Prime, and so on...

The Field

Shorthand for the 'Asteroid Field', this part of Avalon is filled with asteroids and meteors that mining ships often take advantage of. Being a field miner is a steady job with minimal risks, but being a field scout is another viable occupation for a reason.

There are a few planets within the field that act as the hub for miners, and often are home to worker towns. These planets are: ...

The Maelstrom

Deeper within the Field, one can find the Maelstrom, a whirlpool of space rock and debris drawn in by the stars Zebraxys and Vetrynin, named after gods of chaos from two unknown cultures. Few ships pass through here due to the risk of being hit by high velocity space matter, but the passage between the two stars at the core of the Maelstrom are most dangerous.

There are some stray planets present within the Maelstrom, but they don't have much outward use for living. Instead, they serve as secluded headquarters for both the esteemed and infamous of people.

The Cove

Located past the Maelstrom, opposite to the Hub, is the Cove. Despite being on the less popular side of the Avalon star cluster, the Cove is home to a reasonably-minded group of people. Folks often come here with battered ships, so the inhabitants of this side of Avalon tend to be more self-sufficient, trading with other planets less than their folk across the Maelstrom. It's not like a majority of the folk on this side of the Maelstrom could hop to other planets anyways, as fewer viable ships for trading means less imports of vital energy sources, like batteries.

Daredevils who frequently brave the Maelstrom (or just travel around it) often make rest on the planets on the far ends of the Cove. These planets are: ...

The Edge

The Edge, as its name might imply, encapsulates all of Avalon, but is mostly in reference to the Hub's side of Avalon. The Edge has the highest level of technology in Avalon flat out, but the catch is that inhabitants of the Edge don't really live in Avalon either. Most ships that populate this region outsiders, sitting just out of Avalon's grasp to collect information, whilst others serve as tourist destinations. There are a few true Avalonians who travel freely past the edge, exploring the outside galaxy, but they are an enigmatic folk.
