Overview

"Father and Son: A Study of Two Temperaments" by Edmund Gosse is a memoir, initially published anonymously. The book describes Edmunds early years in an exceptionally devout Plymouth Brethren home. The book focuses on the relationship between a stern, religious father who rejects the new evolutionary theories of his scientific colleague Charles Darwin and the sons gradual coming of age and rejection of his fathers fundamentalist religion. While often comical, the book is relatable to children and parents around the world who feel as though they and their loved ones seem to come from different worlds.
