The Goblin Uprising and the ascent of the Warlocks -
The Goblin Uprising was an event that happened roughly 10 centuries ago when a hero emerged from the ranks of captive Goblins held by the Dark Elves of Bramptone. Nergazz was a Goblin born into slavery in the grandest of the subterranean Dark Elf cities. He knew nothing of life outside of the limestone walls that made up the massive cavern where the city of Bramptone proudly stood. Nergazz had an uncharacteristic intelligence in comparison to other members of his race and he was not content with his lot in life and vowed to change it.
Bramptone was an ancient Dark Elf city whose history dated back several millennia. It was the crown jewel to the Dark Elven Empire. Unimaginable riches flowed into the city from the world above and the rulers of the city sat in their stalagmite palaces and got richer and more power hungry by the day. The slave trade was one of their most lucrative business ventures and it all came crashing down one day when the inconsequential Goblin slave named Nergazz discovered a little known ritual to call upon a Demon and strike a bargain for his soul in exchange for immeasurable power.
Prior to Nergazz making a world altering discovery, in his master's vast library, in an ancient text; the knowledge and ritual required to become a Warlock was little more than a fanciful rumor, very few even knew such a thing existed let alone was actually possible. At first, Nergazz did not know what he had and he certainly did not expect it to change the power structure of the entire world. As far as Nergazz was concerned it was just an old battered text but the more he examined the words and began to grasp their meaning, the more he came to understand that he quite possibly held the key to his freedom.
Warlocks were not unknown in the world; they were just very rare at this time in history. The requirements to become a Warlock were a well-guarded secret but all that changed with Nergazz. Nergazz mustered the courage one night and summoned the Demon whose name appeared on the parchment. Unbeknownst to Nergazz, the Demon whose name appeared was perhaps the most powerful Demon in all the realms. Nergazz had unwittingly summoned the great Iz. This turned out to be the moment Iz had been waiting for. Iz was well aware of the limited knowledge there was on Warlocks and he desired to see his influence spread to all corners of the world. Iz knew this was not possible without some unwitting herald to help him spread the word.
Iz did what no other Demon or Devil before him had ever done. He granted Nergazz an overabundance of power, enough power to lay waste to the entire city. Demons and Devils are typically very selfish and stingy with their powers, granting just enough to the Warlock to satisfy the terms of their agreement but in this case, Iz had much greater aspirations. He not only wanted Nergazz to succeed but he wanted him to succeed big and Iz was willing to gamble that Nergazz would most likely not survive anyway. There is no greater motivation than great power and Iz wanted Warlocks to flock to his side after they witnessed what Nergazz was capable of.
With his new found powers Nergazz began the utter annihilation of Bramptone. So much dark energy flowed through him that the emanations could be felt for a hundred miles in every direction. Spell casters on the surface clearly felt the amount of power that was surging deep below. Nergazz was so powerful at this point, even the gods took notice and when Nergazz arrived on the surface he was met by Divas sent by the pantheon to rein him in.
Nergazz was so saturated with power even the Divas had trouble controlling him. In the end, Nergazz was destroyed but Iz did not care because his plan had worked and now the entire world was abuzz with stories of the great and powerful Goblin Warlock who single handedly destroyed the legendary Dark Elf city of Bramptone. From that moment the entire world knew of the potential power that lay with making a deal with a Demon or Devil and becoming a Warlock.
