My Favorite Murder
- Galvin Barnabas was murdered. But there's a lot we still don't know...
- How? Cause of death was ruled as blood loss, due to his throat being slit.
- When? Sometime between 3pm on 12 Marpenoth and 6am on 13 Marpenoth.
- Where? The body was found at dawn on the 13th, hidden under a bush in the Heroes' Garden. However, as no blood was found at the scene, it's believed he was killed elsewhere.
- Why? Barnabas may have discovered the Dark Blades' plans to assassinate Chaera, and they murdered him to keep him quiet. But what exactly did he know, how did he know, and how did they know he knew?
(Also, did we ever see the evidence Staget based this conclusion on?) - Who? Unknown. Suspected to be a Dark Blade.
- By the 17th, rumors of Barnabas' death had begun to spread, but it wasn't widely known yet that he'd been murdered.
- 17th, afternoon: Barnabas' Emporium was ransacked by a crowd of looters.
- It wasn't a random operation; several men appeared to be subtly directing the mob.
- There was zero City Watch presence for several blocks. The organizers seemed confident they wouldn't interfere.
- No one was attempting to get into the locked back office.
- The Watchmen who (eventually) responded to the riot - under orders from the Lords' Council, after Nef called in thru Thern - didn't seem very interested in investigating the crime.
What Manner of Manor?
- The party has come into ownership of Trollskull Manor, a historic property with ... er, a few quirks.
- Hidden crawlspace below the master bedroom
- Several hidey-holes with valuables stashed inside
- Odd symbols inside the upstairs fireplaces
- Weird chandelier in the 3rd-floor turret, and magic circle below it
- Ed the Magister says it's a teleportation/transmutation circle, but couldn't work out more than that. Also, it was previously unregistered with the Magisters' Guild.
- Lif claims, a long time ago, strange lights and noises would come from the turret every so often. At those times, he couldn't get into the room.
- Also, a squatter problem.
- Someone in the crawlspace - reading about House of the Dark Blade
- Someone in the den (a woman, who left her boots) - might be the same person as above
- Lif / "Birdpipes", recently identified as a specter
- Who is Lif, really? (Or who was he, I guess? (Is he a he?))
- Ed the Magister identified him as a specter, but for a specter he's basically a pacifist.
- He claims he can't leave Trollskull Manor. He also has a strong desire to see the place returned to its former glory - repaired, restored, and reopened as a taphouse.
- On 17 Marp, Smoke requested the ownership history of the manor from the Scriveners' Guild.
- Pickup on the 20th?
See a Man about a Horse
- On 17 Marp, Archibald gave Nef a magic watch and a disconcerting offer: to take his place as Thunder's caretaker.
- Who is Archibald?
- Ed the Magister didn't know much about him, except that the Magister's Guild has been charged to keep any harm from befalling either him or Thunder. At any cost.
- What's the deal with Thunder?
The Davil You Know
- On 13 Marp, Smoke told Yagra that her enemy Crentz was working with the Xanathar Guild.
- On 14 Marp, Yagra set up a meeting for Smoke and co. with her boss, Davil. But due to schedule conflicts, lack of information, and the suspicion that Yagra and Davil were Zhents, the party bailed.
- However, on 19 Marp, Nef challenged Yagra to a fight, in the hopes of getting information out of her when he inevitably won. The fight would held in the Hollow House (City of the Dead) at midnight.
- Predictably, Nef lost the fight. Davil (in attendance) had Yagra spare his life, on the condition that Nef, Smoke, and Esmerelda each owed him an unspecified favor at some point.
