The story is about Jean’s journey to try and stop Foxtrot from being covered in an eternal winter because someone in the city council stole a crystal necklace that belonged to a raging Frost spirit that wants it back. Jean is a part of the rebellion in the city and so is tasked by his leader to go and steal it from the council.
How The Series Ends
At the end of the series, he manages to end up stopping eternal winter but there is a price to pay for it and he ends up cursed and becomes the literal winter itself. The winter is called Frostbite hence the name of the series. If he ever goes out of the cave he will end up putting Foxtrot into eternal winter and slowly change into a being of ice and snow. If he doesn’t leave then the planet will go back to normal again but he will live in the cave for a lonely eternity. Since Zai was in the cave with him they ended up becoming cursed too but instead, they will live until Foxtrot dies and is able to move in and out of the cave as they please but Jean can’t see them and only Zai can see Jean. (I will cry having to write this if I ever get to this part of the series. Genuinely will cry my ass off)
Zai and Jean Storyline
-They meet sometime when Jean has fallen into the City of Stars. First, it was just glimpses of Zai and they don’t really appear until the amulet is stolen and Zai decides to help Jean get it back because they knew what the amulet was.
-Jean doesn’t want to team up with them but decides if they know whoever stole the amulet then they would make a great asset to the team and he plans on just leaving them to their own devices when he finally gets the amulet.
-The amulet has been stolen by a woman named Fieriel (Fairyel). She is a known thief and also an assassin within the city. Happens to be a childhood friend of Zai and so they know her well.
-Fier is hard to find so it takes a few days until she is spotted again. When they get to her they find out that she had sold the amulet to a traveller in the desert. So now they have to try and find this traveller. They also manage to find Alric who isn't surprised that Jean is alive since he knew about the tunnels and did try to find him but didn't succeed
-It takes days to find her. They find Fier at a camp that is occupied by elf rogues and alien hybrids. With Zai, they manage to get the necklace back because she could feel some of the effects that they had described to her when Jean had experienced when Adrienna was corrupted.
-They stay at the camp and Jean realises he doesn't want to leave Zai and is trying to figure out these feelings he is feeling for them. He realises that it is love. Actual love that is beyond the surface level. They leave the camp that night with Zai and Alric. Fier decides to stay at the camp.
-They end up at the sea (not The Mirrored Sea, just the normal sea) that is just outside of the forest. Jean has never been to the sea before and finds it breathtaking. He ends up with fantasies of living there and he then decides to talk about his feelings to Zai. Zai also feels stuff back.
-Stay at the beach for a while. Zai is unsure about Jean since they find him intimidating. Mostly just aesthetic attraction and nothing more. So. They get caught later by the elves who aren't exactly thrilled they are here but once they prove that they are trying to put the amulet back they let them through but with a Watcher watching their every move just in case.
-While going through the forest they finally talk more and even though Zai still feels intimidated by
There is another series I’m planning that have to do with these kids in the 40 or so year of the eternal winter and they have decided to try and go hunting for the ice being to stop the winter. In which they end up meeting Zai who is heartbroken and just wants Jean back. Zai tells many stories about Jean and the kids to decide instead of trying to kill the spirit. To try and help Jean and get him back for Zai since Zai is in a world of pain. In which. I think I’m gonna make it so they somehow do bring Jean back (not sure how yet) and it’s gonna be a nice reunion maybe. I’m planning on having it so in the Frostbite series (the first series where we meet Jean and then a few books later Zai) that on their travels they end up at a beach on the edge of the woods (outside of elven territory possibly). Since Jean had never seen the ocean before since he had lived in a city his whole life. He ends up pretty much planning on living there with Zai in a cute wooden cottage on the edge of the beach. Which I think will be really adorable to make it so if Zai does save Jean they decide to live out the rest of their lives there.
