THE V7D (as a Group) TROPES
"Striding through battlefields, locking them down, setting the tone,
You look like the kind to vanish, left nameless, presence unknown.
We’re the ones who light up the stage,
While you slink away in shame.
Funny, isn’t it, how they see our power rise,
Recognizing our mark long before we arrive?
A single strike, a shot, a curse, or maybe more,
Their actions fed by shadows, darkness at their core.
Quincey Harrigan, the force of War’s rage,
Miyuuki, Hungry for blood, to ignite the stage.
Nicoletta, set to Conquer, none will stand tall,
And Medea, the harbinger, bringing Death to all.''
Badass Crew: Long before Medea came into the picture, the gang was already a pack of total badasses, each one cooler than the last.
- We have our main character, the necromancer with a chip on her shoulder, in her quest to become the Nero Angelo. Due to her connections to the Underworld and ability to communicate and control the undead, she receives the codename Death.
- There is the young draculina, harmless-looking and a little childish but would gladly bite your face off in a second. Her ongoing thirst for blood makes it appropriate that she answers to the codename Famine.
- And let's not forget about the cocky boxer dude, coming from the Underground illegal fights and always ready to throw down with anyone who crossed him. Given his background and the fact that he has the combat sports in his blood, it was only natural that he was appointed the codename War.
- But the queen of the pack is their leader - the reigning, defending, undisputed front woman, markswoman, and gun-wielding bad bitch who could take down a hitman squad with just one bullet. She steps in her role as Conquest.
Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The V7D is like a bag of mixed nuts - each one is different, but they all have their own unique crunch. And when it comes down to it, they're all nuts enough to get the job done.
- Nicoletta may act like a wild and carefree cowgirl with a passion for cinematic adventures, and is incredibly hyperactive and bombastic when something catches her interest, which usually gets her distracted. But don't let her goofy demeanour fool you. When it comes to the battlefield, she's the one calling the shots, and for a damn good reason. She's a sharpshooter with nerves of steel, always going above and beyond to protect her team. She's not taking shit from anybody.
- Miyuuki is a quirky, immature, bratty vampire girl who snacks on her teammates' blood while they're asleep or distracted, oversleeps for work, throws knives at her teammates, has to be reminded to wash her hands after killing someone, and couldn't dress professionally to save her life. She is also the designated hitman of the group and the group's top enforcer, when a target is given to her, you can literally consider that target is already dead.
- Quincey is pretty dismissive, is afraid of needles, tends to be the magnet for awful situations, gets drunk quite often and is incredibly full of himself. He's also an incredibly well-trained boxer that used to survive in illegal fight clubs to eat, is incredibly durable for a normal human and is also the first one to step up and throw down with a du Cronos, even though it's obvious he's gonna get his ass handed to him.
Because You Were Nice to Me: Nico had a knack for recruiting people when they were at their lowest, offering them the hope and assistance they needed to turn their lives around. It didn't matter who they were or what they'd been through – if they were ready to fight for a brighter tomorrow, Nico was ready to offer them a shot. And so, the V7D was born, a crew of misfits and outcasts united in their quest for redemption. Each member had their own demons to face, their own past mistakes to atone for. But together, they found the strength to face their fears and fight for a better future.
Badass Family: You can't deny that the V7D crew members come from some pretty amazing lineages.
- Quincey's family has a history of being fighters. His grandfather was a Senegalese wrestling champion with the monicker Shango, and his father was a heavyweight mixed martial artist. It's safe to say that Quincey's path to becoming a boxer was written in the stars.
- Nicoletta's roots lie in a prestigious military family. Her father served as an Italian frogman during World War II, and her grandmother achieved the rank of second lieutenant in the Italian navy. Given this heritage, her innate leadership qualities come as no surprise.
- Yuuki's family is quite the blend of backgrounds. Her mother is the High Nun in the Ancient Church of the Divine Duality, and her father is none other than Valentino Michelangelo Strafford, the Italian mob boss who effectively controls Italy with his predominantly vampire criminal outfit.
- And then... Medea. Her father/creator, Warren, was a black witch master who eventually ascended to become the most powerful demonic entity in the nine circles of Hell. Her eldest "sister," Emma, who went by the name Ahsmanet, was a formidable demon who resisted exorcism even by holy water. And last but not least, her other "sister," Kiara, possessed one of the most promising healing abilities in the world of magic, with the theoretical capability to resurrect the dead.
True Companions: The team always comes first. They’re generally good people; they try hard to do the right thing, but loyalty to each other and to their close friends always seems to come before anything else. They don’t mind bending a few rules, even if it means crossing some serious lines—government regulations, divine orders, you name it. After years of working side by side, facing impossible odds and sharing countless late nights, they’ve formed a bond that’s thicker than blood.
Animal Motifs: Dogs. Especially once Medea, the sometimes nicknamed ''Laurel's Watchdog'', joined the team:
- The V7D is basically a pack of attack dogs, and they've embraced it. They even gave themselves the name "Underground Hounds" and call their missions "hunts." It's a pretty accurate description, given how they tear through their enemies like a pack of wild beasts. And hey, if it helps them give some flavour in the fight against the du Cronos Dynasty, why not lean into it?.
- Especial mention to the rivalry between Medea and Freki, a symbolic hound and a literal wolf.
WoManChild: Nicoletta's well aware that her crew can veer into goofball territory on occasion. Even Medea, the "stoic" one, has had her moments of acting like a hyperactive punk.
Would Not Shoot a Civilian: They prefer to play it cool and keep things clean when it comes to civilians. They won't lift a finger to harm innocent folks unless they're feeling provoked by them. They abide by the unwritten rule to ensure that no innocent bystanders get caught up in their shenanigans. Or just a moral compass that points them away from collateral damage. And let me tell you, when their targets or opponents start wreaking havoc without any regard for innocent lives, they find themselves dumbfounded, enraged even.
Cool Boat: The Black Arrow. The submarine the V7D acquired using the funds siphoned from Valentino's criminal empire after they disbanded it. While they initially considered purchasing a warship, Quincey reminded Nicoletta that real piracy is far from the romanticized portrayal in movies. Submarines offer greater stealth, making them a safer choice, especially for individuals with bounties on their heads..
Took a Level in Badass: Throughout the story, as time goes on everyone in the V7D starts actively grinding levels in badass, by the time of the Atlantic War, Medea is granted the authority and rank and is titled "The Eye of Laurel.", Nicoletta assumes her position in the afterlife hierarchy as co-ruler of the Underworld alongside Laurel. Miyuuki transitioned from a stronger-than-average vampire to a complete Undead Abomination, and Asura bestows a blessing on Quincey, giving him the tenacity, might, and speed of a dragon. Those were some interesting 6 months for The V7D.
- However, when the War is finished, every member loses these enhancements: The goddesses had to (honorably) discharge Medea as The Eye of the Gods because she had fulfilled her duties. Nicoletta handed Laurel the last of her power since she had opted to live out the remainder of her days as a human woman. Since using her undead power constantly would ultimately convert her into a mindless Ghoul, Miyuuki was forced to give it up. And eventually, Quincey's body just loses the Asuran blessing.
Enemy Mine: The V7D found themselves in quite the conundrum when faced with the looming threat of Oceanus. In a classic case of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," they had no choice but to team up with their rivals, The du Cronos Dynasty. Despite their differences, they knew that the only way to defeat Oceanus was to put their grudges aside and work together. It was a reluctant alliance, to say the least.
Almighty Janitor: The V7D crew has been a tight-knit bunch for ages, even before they got any real recognition on the global stage. Back in the early days, law enforcement did all they could to keep their activities hidden through cover-ups and misinformation. So when they roll into different Italian cities and topple corrupt regimes, and monstrous entities they tend to leave people in awe. Nicoletta's perspective is that being underestimated isn't necessarily a bad thing; in fact, she sees some advantages in it.
Quality vs Quantity: Quality takes the cake, hands down. Although the V7D is essentially a four-soldier army, they have proven to be one of the most formidable teams globally, all thanks to the individual strengths of their members. When Nicoletta decided to limit her team to just four members, she had a clear vision. She wanted to create a group that could rival or even surpass her in strength. That's why she chose highly specialized members rather than recruiting just anyone. In fact, it took her three years to assemble the entire team.
Price on Their Head: The V7D's antics, which involve battling monsters, foiling assassins, and dismantling the Italian mafia, might be considered noble or, at the very least, understandable. However, their pursuit of these goals takes place outside the boundaries of the law, and they are officially branded as wanted vigilantes. Their conflicts tend to leave behind significant destruction, often matching that of their adversaries. Additionally, their history of forming temporary alliances with other criminal organizations, even if they later disband these organizations, further complicates their legal standing. While we have a soft spot for these characters, the presence of a bounty on their heads is unsurprising when viewed from a legal standpoint.
Angry Guard Dog: Anthony had nightmares in which the V7D appeared to be a pack of four ravenous dogs sent by Laurel. Adding to the image of the Four-Soldier Army as a pack of ferocious hounds hell-bent on tracking, guarding, and assaulting.
- This is actually quite subverted with The V7D's pet dog Akira, who is mostly a very friendly American Akita.
Berserk Button: The V7D is like a game of Jenga - take one member out and the whole tower comes tumbling down. And trust me, you don't want to be the one to pull that block and mess with their equilibrium.
Theme Naming: Except for Miyuuki, who I didn't name myself, the three remaining members of the V7D were Named After Somebody Famous:
- Medea was named after Princess Medea from Greek Mythology or the Euripides tragedy of the same name.
- Nicoletta's last name, Argento, was named after film director Darío Argento.
- Quincey Harrigan was named after Quincey P. Morris, a character from Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Mike Harrigan from Predator 2. Even his actual given name, Adewale, was after British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
So What Do We Do Now?: The V7D were finally reunited after the war, but the joyous atmosphere was short-lived. As they embraced, they couldn't help but notice the destruction and carnage around them. They realized that they were standing in the middle of a battlefield, where countless lives had been lost. Reality slapped them hard in the face. Sure, they survived, but at what fucking cost? It just didn't feel right to celebrate when there had been so much loss. So, they simply agreed to call it a day, head home, and get some much-needed rest.
Smoking is Cool: Three out of the four V7D members are occasional smokers. Usually lighting one after a mission is done. Only Yuuki managed to avoid smoking until the end of Under Pressure, but that's because she was still in college back then. But by the time Under Siege rolled around, all four of them were seen puffing away.
Token Minority: The V7D is a team consisting of three Italians, the fourth and final member is neither Italian by birthplace, upbringing or heritage. Though the three are indeed from different places in Italy:- Nicoletta da Firenze, as the nickname indicates, was born and raised in the beautiful city of Florence.
- Yuuki took her first breath in the bustling metropolis of Naples.
- Though he initially mentioned he hailed from Florence just like Nico, Quincey turns out to have been born in Sicily.
- And of course, Medea, who was born in the outskirts of Alexandria, Egypt, but due to her genetic template being from Kiara Norrington, she also has Australian heritage. She also had a pretty much British upbringing and spent most of her younger days in Blackpool.
Arch-Enemy: The V7D made it a point to make a lot of enemies on the roster, but make no mistake, they did have their favourite targets and/or those that managed to get under their skin at times.
- For Medea, of course, is her loathsome creator and dimensional demon Sokar, better known as Warren Norrington.
- For Quincey, undoubtedly, Freki du Cronos, the Head of the du Cronos Dynasty, who dared to humiliate and defeat him in front of his comrades.
- For Nicoletta, she holds a very intense hatred for Valentino Strafford for poisoning and controlling her beloved city and for trying to take Miyuuki away from her.
- Miyuuki doesn't have a very plain example as she targets everyone with extreme prejudice.
- As a group, it's safe to say their main competitor is the du Cronos Dynasty.
Good Is Not Soft: The last three members of the V7D are fueled by a sincere desire to right the wrongs of their past and make amends. Their motivations, fueled by Nicoletta are rooted in a genuine pursuit of goodness and justice. However, it's important not to underestimate them; they are formidable adversaries. Unlike Nico, who prefers non-lethal approaches, the rest of the V7D has no issues with eliminating their enemies, often in a violent fashion. This willingness to take lives is often a response to the brutal methods employed by their adversaries, who themselves seek to murder the members of the V7D in equally savage ways.
Fighter, Mage Thief: Miyuuki is the Fighter owing to her superhuman vampiric strength, Medea is the Mage because of her power of Umbrakinesis and necromancy, and Nicoletta is the Thief due to her reliance on cleverness to keep up with her partners utilizing her gun Whisper.
Town Girls: Dance enthusiast, bass player and florist party girl Nicoletta is the femme, stone-cold violent psycho vampire Yuuki is the butch, and the ladylike walking slaughterhouse Medea is neither.
Vigilante Man: The V7D, whose job is to hunt down lowlife criminals (including non-human creatures), but as they discover the Underworld and its monsters, they upgrade their jobs to include dealing with chthonic baddies as well, until Laurel Nasuka accepts them as members of the House of Laurel, deleting the ''vigilante'' part.
Bond One-Liner: They all have their time to shine and unleash verbal smackdowns on their opponents. Medea is the biggest offender of trash-talking, but the rest of the gang are no slouches either.
Positive Friend Influence: This is what the V7D is to Medea, supporting her in overcoming her self-imposed social isolation and abandoning her rage-fueled path of punishment.
Demon Slaying: The V7D didn't plan on demon-slaying being part of their career path, but when Medea's underworld antics started interfering with their lives, they had to take matters into their own hands. They were drafted into a dark and twisted version of the service industry, but with a new brand of customers, ready to serve up some demon ass-kicking.
Squat's in a Name: When Medea asked Nicoletta what V7D stood for, she replied, "Victory of Seven Deities", but then burst out laughing and admitted that it was just a name she made up on the spot because she thought it sounded badass.
Nicoletta: ''It's like when you're taking a test and you have no idea what the answer is, so you just write something that sounds plausible and hope for the best.''
Ragtag Band of Misfits: Nico had this uncanny talent for spotting the real go-getters in life. She figured out that those who've been through some rough patches usually have the fire in their belly to make things happen. So, she made it her mission to hunt down folks with shadowy pasts, assembling a team that included a professional killer-sorceress, a bloodsucking vampire with a mean streak, and a former boxer who got dealt a lousy hand by the justice system.
Family of Choice: Despite their individual traumas and emotional scars, the members of the V7D have managed to form a tight-knit family by providing each other with the support and understanding they need. They all have experienced their fair share of pain and have learned to shut themselves off from the world to avoid further damage, but their bond has helped them overcome their pasts and look forward to a brighter future together.
Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Initially, Nicoletta was Yuuki's go-to for comfort, with her warm hugs and calming presence. However, as time passed, Medea also began to use the same gentle approach with Yuuki, tenderly stroking her hair and face to ease her anger.
Elite Army: The eventually end up becoming something of an elite group of black ops working for the Underworld. The V7D's skills are put on full display in a pretty memorable incident involving the Cosa Nostra, led by Valentino. They decided to send a whopping 100 of their goons armed to the teeth—firearms, blades, and a substantial number wielding enchanted weaponry. However, the outcome was decisively one-sided—not in favor of the goons.
Elite Four: After the other three members of the V7D are accepted as proper members of The House of Laurel, the V7D attains the status of the primary elite enforcer group under Laurel's command.
Recruiting The Criminal: When Nicoletta was assembling her crew, she didn't shy away from choosing individuals with shady pasts—Quincey, an underground fighter, Miyuuki, a ravenous draculina, and Medea, a necromancer that dances smoothly through the dark arts— These individuals had their fair share of questionable and downright criminal activities in their past. But Nicoletta had a sixth sense about their potential. She knew deep down that with a little guidance and some serious teamwork, these misfits could become an unstoppable force. Turns out she was dead-on! Together, they're like a wrecking crew you don't wanna mess with.
Colour-Coded Characters: The V7D always seem to have a touch of purple in their ensemble, whether it's a conscious fashion statement or just a happy accident:
- Nico has a dark purple vest.
- Miyuuki's jacket is dark purple.
- Medea wears purple eyeliner.
- Purple is the most consistent colour with Quincey.
Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: When Nicoletta's stuck in a sticky moral situation, she turns to her reliable crew—Quincey, Medea, or Miyuuki—because, let's face it, she's just not cut out for the whole taking-a-life thing. Luckily, Medea and Miyuuki are more than happy to oblige; in fact, they relish the opportunity to let loose and show off their killer instincts. It's a win-win for everyone, except maybe the unlucky target on the receiving end.
Freudian Trio: The 3 female members fit this.
- Id: Miyuuki, when it comes to violence, Miyuuki takes the cake as the most impulsive and instinctual member of the V7D crew. She's not one to overthink things or hold back when it comes to taking down her foes.
- Ego: Nicoletta, the leader, manages to keep her emotions in check and always strives to do what's right - even if it means breaking a few rules along the way. She's a total kickass, but she's also smart enough to know when to rein it in and avoid going too crazy.
- Superego: She's not one to shy away from brutality. However, unlike Miyuuki, Medea is a master of strategy and always waits for the perfect moment to pounce, like a wild tiger stalking its prey. She's a wily and strategic fighter, and if she can eliminate an opponent before the battle even begins (like catching them off guard with a sneak attack), she won't think twice.
Prefers Proper Names: Medea would initially use the V7D's members' given names. Nicoletta for Nico, Miyuuki for Yuuki... and Harrigan for Quincey.
Bash Brothers: Miyuuki and Quincey, most often, but all four of them can and have teamed together.
Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Nico is genuinely cheerful and friendly (nice), Yuuki is a rude and brutal vampire (mean), and Medea is calm, respectful and loyal but also incredibly wrathful and quick to retaliate with violence if she feels provoked (in-between).
Deadpan Snarker: Let's just say they have a lot to say about each other — most of it less-than-friendly.
Gentle Touch vs. Firm Hand: All over the place. Most clearly, Medea (firm hand) to Nico's "gentle touch", but The Eye is always the firm hand to whichever character she is paired with.
Balance, Speed, Strength Trio: The V7D had this kind of formation pre-Medea, with Miyuuki as the balance, Nico as the speed and Quincey as the strength.
No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: They've given plenty of these to their foes.
Date Peepers: The rest of the party will be spying and/or paying close attention to any amorous moments between Medea and Nico or Yuuki.
Power Stable: Initially a Power Trio, but after Medea Norrington threw in her lot with them, they have become a four-soldier army.
Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: The three girls in the crew fit these roles:
- Nico — Beauty. She cares a great deal about her looks.
- Medea — Brains. She's highly intelligent and is the strategist of the crew.
- Miyuuki — Brawn. She is the quickest to resort to violence to deal with a problem.
MIYUUKI STRAFFORDs Tropes (Miyuuki Strafford)
Adrenaline Makeover: Miyuuki goes from a "fangtastic" and lovely vampire girl to a hardcore Draculina faster than you can say "bleh." Sometimes it happens within the same minute!
Badass Adorable: Being sired by a full-fledged vampire by default makes her the second most powerful member of the V7D. And after everything is said and done, she's still insanely friendly and cute.
Beware the Silly Ones: She may be young and can't stop running her mouth, but her job is to keep Italy free from dragons and other nasties twice her age and strength. There's also her anger problems...
Cute Bruiser: Don't let her age and her pretty face fool you, her bloodline and V7D training means she is perfectly capable of unleashing a world of hurt.
Token Heroic Orc: She is the only benevolent vampiric creature of the story so far. Since the dhampirs Mary and Megan Stivron are members of the du Cronos Dynasty, her father Valentino is one of their most ferocious targets and the Head Nun has a hidden agenda of her own, not outright evil but still antagonizing the main team.
Dark Is Not Evil: She's a vampire, sired by the vampire mafia boss who runs Italy. And you know how most vampires are portrayed. Miyuuki, however, is a Friendly Neighborhood Vampire... as long as you're not opposing her or the V7D.
Good Is Not Soft: She's not one to shy away from a good old-fashioned brawl, just like the rest of her V7D buddies. In fact, she's been known to get a little too into it and accidentally take things a bit too far... oops!
Undying Loyalty: Ever since the moment she joins the team, Miyuuki is THE most dedicated member to taking care of her buddies. Seeing one of them hurt sends her into a full-on Roaring Rampage of Revenge mode.
Byronic Hero: She is committed, competent, beautiful, witty, and morally solid. But she's also downright moody, brooding for days if something gets under her skin, and when she’s mad, she’s a force of pure wrath. To top it off, she’s mostly a lone wolf, barely tolerating anyone outside her V7D crew. She’s self-absorbed, living in her own world with little care for anyone who isn’t part of her close circle. Both superhuman and subhuman at the same time.
Boyish Short Hair: She has her hair styled to her shoulders, unlike her girlfriends who like to keep their long hair flowing. She is aggressive and volatile but not particularly tomboyish.
Consistent Clothing Style: A blue winter jacket paired with black pants is her go-to outfit.
Ax-Crazy: Similar to Medea, but displayed differently. Miyuuki is a fun-loving, plucky, easygoing and energetic girl (instead of calm, quiet and graceful), but like Medea, she's also one of the most volatile members of the V7D and is eager to retaliate with brutal violence when she perceives someone who is an actual threat.
Large Ham: She often speaks up louder than any of the other members of her team.
Trademark Favorite Food: Blood, duh. However, she appears to be quite hooked on Nicoletta's blood in particular.
Undead Abomination: She basically becomes a Lovecraftian vampire with a completely overpowered healing factor and shapeshifting abilities after drinking Asura's blood.
Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Nico initially had a hard time believing an adorable and easygoing girl like Miyuuki can be a vampire. Then she sees her Hot-Blooded attitude due to her Hair-Trigger Temper during a fight, at that moment she is much closer to the image of a scary vampire.
In-Series Nickname: Just like the rest of the V7D crew, her code name is a nod to one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse; she's known as Famine. This isn't too far off considering she’s always complaining about her relentless thirst. Hell, if her friends aren’t careful, she’ll sneak a sip from them when they’re not paying attention, like a mischievous cat. But when it comes to her enemies? That’s when her hunger really shows. In the heat of battle, she’ll drain their blood with an almost gleeful intensity.
Daywalking Vampire: Miyuuki isn't burned by daylight. However, she loses her vampiric powers until the sunset.
Super-Persistent Predator: Miyuuki can pursue someone at up to 70 km/h, which is justifiable given a vampire's natural endurance. Nico recruited Miyuuki when she showcased this trait to her.
Colour-Coded Characters: Black.
Polyamory: She eventually fell in love with Nicoletta and then Medea.
Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Miyuuki's hair is dark purple (though it's supposed to be black) and pale-skinned, although her teammates consider her to be cute or adorable rather than beautiful.
Agent Mulder: Unlike the others, it doesn't take much to convince Miyuuki that there are dragon gods out there.
No Sense of Personal Space: Has a habit of getting very close to people when talking to them, mostly to try and suck their blood.
Weakened by The Light: Her vampiric powers severely weaken during the dawn and return to their full might during the sunset.
Bratty Half-Pint: The youngest of the main protagonists, and also the most ill-tempered.
The Gloves Come Off: Once Asura gives the opportunity, she immediately takes a good bite to drink a good amount of her divine blood, turning herself into a Lovecraftian vampire in the Atlantic War.
Celebrity Crush: She has one for Keanu Reeves.
Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: She goes from Raven Hair, Ivory Skin territory to this once the blood of Asura turns her into a Lovecraftian-level vampire abomination.
Vampires Are Sex Gods: Miyuuki looks the part but she is in fact considered cute or pretty rather than sexy and she's about as "sensual" and "vampish" as a keyboard.
Barbarian Longhair: When she transforms into an Undead Abomination during the Atlantic War, Yuuki’s whole appearance shifts into something darker and more haunting. Her hair grows out, way longer and wilder, spilling over her shoulders in tangled, shadowy strands that almost seem alive, like they’re reaching out on their own.
Cute and Psycho: Yuuki has this playful, almost innocent vibe—dark hair tied up in a ponytail, and a fur-collared jacket that adds a touch of attitude. She’s constantly flashing coy, mischievous smiles that practically scream, I’m up to something. Spoiler: she usually is. But her idea of “fun” leans... unconventional. Beneath that playful exterior lies a shocking eagerness to drain people dry—of their blood, obviously—her smile widening and her eyes gleaming with excitement whenever the opportunity presents itself.
From a Single Cell: Downplayed. Because of her vampiric nature, killing Miyuki is an extremely specific process that must be carried out with absolute precision. Every step has to be followed in the exact order; otherwise, she’ll regenerate as long as she has access to enough blood. Here’s the process:
- Pierce her heart. The tool doesn’t matter—it could be a blade, a wooden stake, or even claws—but the heart must be pierced.
- Remove her head. Whether it’s sliced off or torn away doesn’t matter; the key is that the head is fully separated from the body.
- Burn both the body and the head. Complete incineration is required.
- Scatter the ashes. The ashes must be spread so thoroughly that it’s impossible for them to reunite in any logical way.
- If even one step is skipped or done out of order, Miyuki will regenerate as soon as she has enough blood to drink from.
Death as Comedy: As a consequence to the above. Since the process for killing Yuki is so ridiculously specific—and so few people actually know how to do it properly or bother to complete every step—that she ends up “dying” quite a lot in the series. Most people assume that stabbing her heart or cutting off her head will do the trick, but since her teammates know she’ll just regenerate with enough blood, and she herself doesn’t seem to develop any PTSD over these death-like experiences, her frequent “deaths” are played as dark, slapstick comedy.
- She once got caught in an explosion caused by one of Mia's projectiles and spent the rest of the fight literally in pieces, sarcastically yelling at her teammates to hurry up and put her back together while they argued over which limb went where.
- She fell off a cliff during a mission, got impaled on a tree branch, and had to awkwardly explain to a confused passerby why she was still alive while dangling upside-down hanging with her entrails like a human shish kebab.
- In the middle of a high-stakes chase, Yuki tripped on her feet (yes, really), tumbled off a building, and got impaled on a wrought-iron fence. While hanging there, she deadpanned, “Well, this is a first, usually someone else impales me with extreme prejudice.''
- Once Quincey, tired of her demeanor while the team was trying to chill, jokingly threw a stapler at her head with way too much force. The stapler lodged into her right eye, and she dramatically collapsed, mockingly pretending to gasp her last words, “Tell my story… as a martyr of office supplies,” before bursting into laughter when someone handed her blood.
- In a beach episode gone wrong, a stray harpoon from an overenthusiastic fisherman impaled her straight through the chest.
- She once got her head stuck in a guillotine as part of a tourist attraction reenactment in San Nicandro. When it accidentally activated and actually chopped her head off, she shouted, “I thought this was a reenactment, not demonstration!”
Odd Name Out: She's the only member of the V7D who is not Named After Somebody Famous. (See above).
Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She is barely 5'6, but has the rawest strength of the group overall. This is further proven when she went toe-to-toe with Freki's wolf pack in a physical fight (though her inexperience does show in the one-on-one fights, as the Tribal Chief demonstrated). It takes a solid headbutt from Freki's full-fledged wolf form to knock her out.
I Hate You, Vampire Dad: Kind of zig-zagged. Miyuki is one of the rare people Valentino, her father, has anything resembling a decent relationship with. Despite him being an inhuman monstrosity who occasionally scares the life out of her, Miyuki genuinely likes her dad. For his part, Valentino seems to have a clear soft spot for his only child. That said, it doesn’t stop her from trying to hunt him down for the V7D’s cause.
Red Eyes, Take Warning: The norm for vampires. She does, however, have scarlet red eyes as opposed to Mary and Megan's crimson red eyes, which represents the distinction between the two dhampyrs and the vampire from the V7D.
The Baby of the Bunch: Yuuki is noticeably younger than the rest of her team—while Medea and Quincey are in their mid-20s, and Nicoletta is pushing into her late 20s, Yuuki is just 19 when the story begins, still balancing college classes with the responsibilities that come with being part of the V7D.
Dhampir: As the daughter of vampire Valentino Michelangelo Strafford and an unnamed Italian woman, she is technically a dhampire. Despite the fact that everyone, including herself, refers to her as a vampire. However, as the daughter of the Head Nun of the Ancient Church, she is eventually determined to be a full-fledged vampire.
The Big Guy: Yuuki is assigned the role of the team's hitman regardless of the fact that the team has other skills that may be used to greater devastation than hers. While the rest of the V7D have powers that can be used beyond combat, Yuuki’s vampirism is treated almost exclusively as a weapon, making her the go-to for handling the team’s dirty work.
Berserker Tears: During her Roaring Rampage of Revenge toward Oceanus' army when she believed Medea died during the War. Unbeknownst to her, Medea was alive, she was just trapped in Asura in the meantime.
Good Feels Good: Like Medea, she comes to this realization, genuinely enjoying human life and trying to take care of the V7D.
Spell my name with an S: Depending on who you ask, her name is written as Miyuuki or Miyūki, and her nickname is either Yūki or Yuuki.
Back-to-Back Badasses: With Quincey. They trust each other implicitly and are familiar with each other's fighting styles, making them a very dangerous combination on the battlefield.
Animorphism: Miyuuki is able to transform into mist and a swarm of bats. She does transform into a wolf when fighting against Freki. Considering this is a classic vampiric ability, this is not too surprising.
QUINCEYs TV Tropes
Expy: Was created based on The King of Pop in his younger days.
The Fighting Narcissist: He's reeeeaaaaallly full of himself.
It's All About Me: His usual motivation, although he does slip into selflessness every now and then.
Boisterous Bruiser: This dude just can't throw down without constantly bragging about his own awesomeness.
Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Nico's chosen weapon is a summonable Flintlock pistol, given that she's a gunslinger, while Quincey prefers hand-to-hand combat.
But Not Too Foreign: Half-Sicilian, Half-African (Yoruba, to be precise).
The Gadfly: Quincey enjoys annoying people, especially Medea. And he's really, really good at it.
Purple Is Powerful: He wears a dark purple bandana with the V7D logo and, much like Medea, purple eyeliner. He's also the ''War'' of the team.
Odd Couple: From a bitter rivalry to an unexpected but genuine friendship, the relationship between Quincey and Medea evolves in fascinating ways throughout the story. Quincey starts out opposing everything Medea stands for, only to later count her as one of his most dedicated supporters. Medea, despite her reservations and knowing deep down he’s unlikely to succeed, even helps him train for a rematch with Freki. On the flip side, Quincey comes to see Medea as a trusted confidant—someone he can lean on as he works to become a better version of himself. Their level of trust is remarkable, with Medea becoming the second most important person in Quincey’s life after Nicoletta. For Medea, their bond feels like the closest thing she’s ever had to having a younger brother.
Gentle Giant: Quincey is a big guy, towering over pretty much everyone, Nicoletta included. He’s got this massive frame, wide shoulders, and a presence that could easily intimidate anyone who doesn’t know him well. But the surprising part? He’s a genuinely kind, laidback, and chill soul. He’s the type who would willingly take a dive in fights he could easily win, all for the extra payout that would help support both himself and his team. Despite his strength, Quincey’s protective instinct kicks in hard when it comes to his teammates, even though two of them—especially Yuuki and Medea—might actually outmatch him in raw strength and power, respectively.
The Chew Toy: Quincey always finds himself in the stickiest of situations within the V7D team. If there's danger lurking around the corner, he'll trip over it and fall right into it without fail.
Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Is the Brooding Boy to Nico's Gentle Girl.
Hey, You!: At first, he usually only refers to Medea by her monicker and always refuses to use her given name.
Abusive Parents: Quincey doesn't talk about it much, but he's got a serious grudge against bullies. And it's not just because they're jerks, it's personal. See, his old man was a grade-A bully himself, a bitter old man who took out all his frustrations on Quincey when he was growing up.
Campy Combat: He has the over-the-top demeanour like many of The Norrington's Desire characters, wears purple eyeliner and wears custom designer clothing, yet he's the most physical member of the Team in terms of hand to hand combat.
Amicable Exes: Nicoletta often says he was a true gentleman when they dated, kind and thoughtful, the kind of guy who made her feel genuinely cared for. They may have decided they’re better as friends, but there’s no bad blood—just mutual respect and a lot of shared history
Fatal Flaw: Losing to Mia stung, but losing to Freki? That hit Quincey where it hurt most. These defeats made him realize he was far too fixated on winning, especially in close combat. Sure, he could brush off a loss if someone tricked him or used magic to win; he could accept that as part of the game. But being beaten in straightforward, hand-to-hand fights? Damn.
- After some time, Quincey managed to secure a rematch with Mia. He came incredibly close to victory; she only got away because her partner had to swoop in and save her, an outcome Quincey saw as a small but satisfying win. It was enough to let go, to ease his pride.
- Freki was the one he couldn’t shake, couldn’t get over. The defeat burned in him, keeping him awake at night with a determination that bordered on desperation. Nothing short of a real, undeniable win over Freki would ever let him rest easy. When the Atlantic War rolled around, Quincey tried again, pouring everything he had into proving himself against the Tribal Chief. But Freki, growing impatient with Quincey’s relentless challenges, finally decided to put an end to the whole thing. With brutal annoyance, he delivered a spine-crushing stomp that left Quincey in agony, paralyzed and helpless.
Birds of a Feather: Medea can’t help but see a bit of her younger self in Quincey, which is why her attitude toward him shifts as they get to know each other better. At first, she was pretty indifferent to his antagonism, and it took Nicoletta’s nudging to even get them to work together. But once they started teaming up, Medea quickly realized that Quincey had potential—and a heart.
Ambiguously Bi: Even though Quincey's heart may still belong to his ex, Nicoletta, that doesn't stop him from throwing a little flirty attitude at whoever he’s up against. Whether his opponent’s male or female, he’s got no problem slipping into cheeky banter mid-fight. Whether it's genuine charm or a strategic move to unsettle them, your guess is as good as mine.
Berserk Button: Initially, the mere existence of the newly crowned Death. Quincey was consistently antagonistic to her in nearly every interaction they have. They get better later.
Knight Templar: Subverted. On a regular day, Quincey’s pretty level-headed. You can usually talk him down, and he’s not above adjusting his standards to work with others. But mess with his teammates, put his country in danger, or—worst of all—swipe the ice cream he left in the fridge? The gloves come off.
Handwraps of Awesome: Uses them during missions, perhaps as a reminder of his days as a boxer.
Embarrassing First Name: Unlike his moniker "Quincey," may seem out of place for a Sicilian young man, his given name is Adewale, which not only confirms his Yoruba heritage but also blends well with his cultural background.
Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Being a 6'5'' hunk with raven hair and a massive Chick Magnet, this is part and parcel.
Action Survivor: Downplayed. Quincey's life as a prizefighter may be behind him, but his fighting spirit remains unbroken. Despite enduring terrible stabbings, gunshots, and beatings over the course of seven years, he always manages to come out alive and ready for the next battle. However, the Atlantic War was a different beast altogether. The sheer intensity of that conflict pushed him to his limits and beyond, leaving him battered and bruised in ways he never thought possible. The injuries he sustained during the war piled on top of all the damage from his earlier fights, creating a mountain of pain that he could no longer ignore.
Big Eater: Quincey has a huge appetite and a noticeably round belly, making him the only one in the V7D with some extra weight. Ironically, though, his belly isn’t the result of just careless eating; his voracious appetite is actually there to help maintain his muscle mass. His belly, like the rest of his body, is packed with muscle
Dislikes the New Girl: When Medea first joined the team, Quincey couldn’t hide his skepticism. He was always throwing criticism her way and questioning her motives. But considering Medea was a no-nonsense vigilante looking to bludgeon those she judged as guilty, he had a pretty valid reason to distrust her. At first, their interactions were tense, filled with sharp remarks and glaring side-eyes. Medea’s blunt approach didn’t help either; she didn’t pull any punches when it came to speaking her mind, and that only fueled Quincey’s doubts. But as time went on, the two found themselves in some pretty intense situations that forced them to rely on one another.
Functional Addict: He's not just a smoker like his buddies; he's also a real boozer. But unlike Nicoletta, he can't seem to figure out when to stop, often waking up the next morning with a killer hangover.
Ho Yay: Dear Lord, the man has chemistry with everyone. Especially his enemies.
Armored Villains, Unarmored Heroes: Inverted. Quincey has worn some type of protective clothing each time he's faced Freki, although Freki normally wears his formal clothes. Quincy is a regular guy, but Freki is a wolf with dragon blood and hence considerably more physically endowed.
Bald of Awesome: He asked Miyuuki to shave his head before the Atlantic War.
The One Guy: Quincey is the only male character playing an active role in the V7D (slightly subverted once Akira joins the group as a Team Pet).
The Big Guy: He's one of his team's heavier hitters and fits since he acts impulsively rather than being wise or clever... most of the time.
Legacy Character: Quincey hails from a lineage deeply rooted in the realm of combat, with a family history that boasts generations of fighters. Both his grandfather and father were entrenched in various combat sports. His grandfather was a prominent figure in the discipline of Senegalese wrestling, showcasing a mastery of the sport's intricate techniques. On the other hand, his father carved a path as a heavyweight mixed martial artist, displaying prowess in a diverse range of fighting disciplines within the arena of MMA.
Took a Level in Badass: Downplayed. He's a great fighter, yet in their fight, his fists and assaults are generally ineffectual owing to Freki's dragon-like nature. However, things changed when Quincey got Asura's blessing, giving him the boost he desperately needed to match Freki’s strength and agility. Suddenly, his skills were no longer just flailing in the wind. With the blessing on, Quincey could finally harness his fighting prowess effectively, turning him into a serious threat to Freki during the war. He started landing punches that actually had some weight behind them, and for the first time, he felt like he was standing toe-to-toe with the wolf. However, Quincey became a bit arrogant. He started to believe he could take on Freki in a fair fight, thinking he could finally outsmart and overpower him. This confidence, however, proved to be his undoing. The battle devolved into a standstill; both fighters were too evenly matched, and while Quincey could hold his own, he couldn't quite seal the deal.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As much of an asshole as he can be, he can still be trusted to do the right thing and shows a softer side with Nicoletta and Yuuki.
Undying Loyalty: Ignoring the romantic aspect, Quincey is completely devoted to Nicoletta and will follow her instructions, even if he may challenge them at first.
Smart Ball: It's hard to argue that Quincey isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. But every so often, he surprises a few people by making the right call, specially owing to being more street smart than his comrades.
In-Series Nickname: Much like the rest of the V7D, his official monicker takes after a Horseman of Apocalypse, in his case, he was named War.
Fights Like a Normal: Quincey is the V7D's outlier; he's got no fancy magic or supernatural skills. Yet, when it comes to good old-fashioned fisticuffs, he's the one you want by your side, and word on the street is he can bench press a truck. Makes you wonder, does he even need magic?
Career-Ending Injury: He retired after the Atlantic War because of a serious neck injury—a spinal cord injury from the battlefield that nearly ended him. The injury was so severe that only about 5% of people even manage to recover from it. Doctors had to put 16 staples, four screws, and a metal rod in his neck just to hold everything together. The real kicker? Quincey only made it through because Asura blessed him. Without her intervention, he’d be lucky to come out of it crippled for life, if he survived at all.
The Team Normal: Quincey doesn't have any fancy superpowers like the rest of the crew. Nah, he's all about the old-school stuff. He was bred a boxer with loads of training, and that's how he throws down in battles. Just good ol' fists and technique, and that's enough to get the job done!
Made of Iron: Though not to the extent of Medea, Quincey can still take an insane amount of damage and just keep chugging through a fight, usually to the horror of his opponents. This is taken Up To Eleven during the War, when he receives the blessing of Asura, which, among other things, enhances his endurance by providing armour as durable as dragon's scales.
Back-to-Back Badasses: Together, Quincey and Miyuuki have an unspoken bond that allows them to work together seamlessly in combat situations. They have a deep understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses, which allows them to cover for each other's blind spots and launch coordinated attacks on their enemies. Their trust and confidence in each other make them a deadly duo on the battlefield.
Weak, but Skilled: Downplayed. When compared to his comrades, he has no Underworld Nigh-Impenetrable defence abilities, no vampiric abilities, and no summonable customized gun with endless ammo that can control the shots it fires. He makes up for it with his endurance, determination and training as a prizefighter.
Always Someone Better: Freki du Cronos. Freki's got the size, the strength, the toughness, and he's quick on his feet, just like Quincey. No matter how hard Quincey tries to go toe-to-toe with him, he's always on the edge, resorting to desperate moves like cheap shots and low-blows just to gain some advantage. Even when Quincey manages to hold his ground against Freki, it's like, barely. He can never really claim a solid victory. The only thing that saves Quincey's ass in the Atlantic War is a temporary boost from Asura, giving him a chance to fight the wolf... but it's just a stalemate in the end.
Arch-Enemy: Quincey's defeat against Freki was a brutal blow to his pride, and he struggled to come to terms with it, especially since Miyuuki had also stepped in to help and he was still defeated. In his frustration, he decided to transform his physique from lean muscle to a more powerlifter-like build, hoping to gain an edge in a future rematch with the Head of the du Cronos Dynasty.
Jack of All Stats: He's pretty damn strong, but he's no match for Miyuuki in that department. And he's smart, but nowhere near Medea's detective skills. When it comes to skills, he's good, but not quite up there with Nicoletta. For a while, he was thought to be better than your average human, but then along comes Mia Wilde, another Badass Normal, and she totally outdoes him. So now, he's back to being seen as really competent, but not the absolute best. He finally reclaims the spot from Mia after nearly defeating her.
Empowered Badass Normal: During the War, he receives the blessing of Asura, who is somehow interested in empowering the other V7D members since she also helped Yuuki by giving her some of her blood. The blessing of Asura grants him endurance and strength in dragon territory, as well as very durable skin capable of helping him in his lacking defense department.
Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Quincey endures intense physical punishment throughout the story, and while he refuses to give up during missions, once the action subsides, it becomes clear that he is the most vulnerable of the V7D. After the Atlantic War, he survives only due to a temporary blessing from Asura, and is left unable to continue fighting, leading to his retirement. It is hinted that without Asura's intervention, Quincey would not have made it out alive.
Colour-Coded Characters: Purple.
Cool Uncle: Quincey is excited to become an awesome uncle to Gerard from the moment he was told Nicoletta was pregnant, and he's ready to teach the little tyke all sorts of questionable things that only a cool uncle can get away with. Sadly, he never got the chance to be one...
Sour Supporter: At first, Quincey and Medea didn't see eye to eye on pretty much anything, but as they spent more time together, and as they were placed as tag team in missions, he started to see her in a different way, leading to the development of an unexpected camaraderie and genuine friendship between them.
Badass Normal: No superpowers whatsoever. Anything he's achieved has come from rigorous boxing training. He's actually the ultimate normal human in Norrington's Desire and among the top heavyweight fighters overall. He can take on a bunch of other tough fighters in hand-to-hand combat, from Miyuuki to Mia to Freki.
Stout Strength: During the Atlantic War, Quincey goes through a bit of a transformation in terms of his physique. He intentionally ditches the traditional polished muscular hunk look and embraces a heavyset build that you'd typically see on a powerlifter. He's still a massive dude, and his strength is off the charts, but now he's rocking a physique with a bit more body fat compared to his previous six-pack days. Think less defined abs and more of a solid, powerful presence...
- Don't get it wrong, it's not like he just let himself go and got a beer belly as a result. Prior to the War, he sported the conventional appearance of a bodybuilder, with bulging muscles that made a visual impact. ''Visual'' is the key word, as in reality, his strength wasn't as formidable as it is at present. The key difference is that while his overall muscle mass remains consistent, the distribution of this mass has been optimized for the areas that hold greater significance in terms of physical power.
Acrofatic: Any near-300-pounder who can keep up with wolves and vampires, which are very much known as Speedsters, can definitely call himself Acrofatic. It's clear he hasn't sacrificed any speed or vertical jump, despite intentionally increasing his bulk, flawlessly executing athletic maneuvers like moonsaults and kip-ups. Freki confirmed this when they briefly busted heads during the Atlantic War; hitting Quincey's chest now felt like smacking into a solid brick wall. It's enough to break a few human fingers, but for a half-dragon wolf like Freki, it's just enough to make an impact.
Hunk: Initially, Quincey had this total manly charm and physicality going for him. His handsome face, deeply cared-for curls, ripped muscles, and overall pretty boy physique made him a real head-turner wherever he went. But then, in the Atlantic War arc, he embraced a more rugged, lumberjack kind of handsomeness, leaving behind any "pretty boy" appeal.
Real Men Can Cook: Quincey, along with Nicoletta, is responsible of feeding the V7Ds members. He's such a superb cook that when he mistakenly made some chicken wings too spicy, no one could stop eating them.
Big Beautiful Man: By the beginning of Under Siege, he is still rather conventionally attractive in a slightly different way. In contrast to his previous sharper and more marked physique, Quincey is now bulkier and barrel-chested.
Anti-Hero: He was rude to his comrade (Medea), leaves a path of destruction in his wake, and doesn't keep many suspects alive, but overall he has a good heart. To be fair, the only character in the V7D who is indeed a true hero rather than an antihero is Nicoletta.
The Brute: Quincey is like a big bicep with legs, but that doesn't mean he's a total airhead. Sure, his thought process might not be as quick as Medea's analytical, crazy-preparedness, or Nico's lightning-fast mind, but he's no slouch in the brains department.
Scary Black Man: He has quite a reputation on the streets.
Boxing Battler: He's a trained boxer; Nicoletta and Yuuki met him when they attended one of his last matches.
The Worf Effect: Quincey is a fierce and clever fighter, someone you can always rely on to give it his all in a battle... but it's just a matter of time before he ends up getting tossed around like a ragdoll. This became a common sight for his teammates, Nicoletta and Medea. Whenever they faced a particularly tough adversary, Quincey often ended up as the bait. It was almost like a running joke among them. As he hit the ground, his body crumpling under the force of a powerful blow, Nicoletta or Medea would watch intently, analyzing the enemy's strength and fighting style. .
- Quincey went up against Freki and let's just say it didn't go well for him. Even with some questionable tactics, like hitting Freki from behind and going low, and with Miyuuki's help, he still got his butt handed to him on a silver platter.
- He was the first one to fight fellow Badass Normal Mia Wilde after tracking the V7D. Despite showcasing superior combat skills, her remarkable speed and the advantage of her powered armor proved to be an overwhelming challenge for him. They had a rematch sometime later, during which he came dangerously close to securing victory, but ultimately his triumph was thwarted by the intervention of Byron, who stepped in to rescue her girlfriend.
Combat Pragmatist: Quincy's a down-to-earth guy when it comes to dealing with Freki. He starts things off with a sneak attack from the back, catching the wolf off guard to gain the upper hand. However, it's important to note that Quincy doesn't shy away from confrontation. When directly engaging in combat, he demonstrates he can stand his ground against Freki—just not for long.
Shipper on Deck: After Nico and Quincey break their relationship amicably, he encourages her to hook up with Medea. At first, he's a bit hesitant to support Nico hooking up with her because he still has unresolved feelings for her. But Quincey's a good friend and he cares about them both, so he changes his tune and tells them to go for it. Even when her gal Medea heads off to LA to find Warren Norrington, he's right there for Nico, reminding her to stay hopeful and not lose faith in her girlfriend.
