I've never really been interested in buying stuff for Valentine's day, mostly because no one has ever had any attention with me, at school, girls would get letters or gifts from 'secret Valentine's'. This would make me want to have someone to like me enough to give me something, sometimes it would be an obligation for guys to give us a small present on Women's day, but that was enough for me. Now that I'm at university I've learned to not get my hopes too high, everyone is focused on their studies or trying to survive to social pressure...which is, kinda, like a wanted indifference.
Today some of the students from the beauty arts faculty have prepared a small play and even took the time to give almost everyone and invitation, the director likes this kind of activities, but everything has to be from 'students to students', it became a tradition here, it's really cute, actually, all of this preparation that only lasts one day. I was walking through the hallways from the faculty with Danae, she had become my confidant in the lastest days. She wouldn't even ask about my job, only the pictures I asked her to print and how it had felt to be in that scene, the only problem is that one day I left my camera at her place because I was in a rush (my parents would come over that day to see how I was doing, and my house was a complete mess) and she saw some pictures I took of Savi, at first she just asked who she was, I told her she was my boss and that the only reason I had taken those pictures was that I was trying to fix a problem with the camera lens. But everything went down when it slipped from Mika's lips that I had some kind of feelings for her and that we should make a club called "Homo Team" since we were both gay. Now she won't stop teasing me from time to time whenever I go to her house for printing.
"I honestly don't see so much of charm in all these 'Valentine activities' it's just a cheap excuse to spend money on things only couples can do," said Danae asking for the elevator while tossing her hair backward.
"We're gonna be late for today's play at the auditorium" I reminded her as soon as the elevator doors opened for us revealing completely darkness, the lights had been removed for maintenance...that was almost a month ago, and ever since then, none uses it, they say that it's way too dark to not get claustrophobic. Before entering, I look at Danae and say with a confident tone "Would you rather use the stairs?" the problem with the stairs is that they're way too sloppy, and dangerous because of the sharp edges of the steps and the small size of them. A girl fell through the stairs once and broke her leg, not to mention the bruises and cuts all over her legs and arms due to the fall. The university didn't do anything to fix the stairs, nothing but to put a stair railing and something to cover the sharp edges of the steps. They also paid the family of the girl for the incident, the good thing is, she's alright and luckily she's able to walk again, she now has every class at the safety of the first floor (that was the arrangement her family an the director did in order to prevent a lawsuit from her parents).
It took Danae less than three seconds to push me and her into the dark and press the button for the first floor. When the doors closed my phone rang, it was Savi 'Why is she calling me at this time of the day?' sadly Danae noticed this and quickly changed her scared expression to a grin, I could tell she was grinning due to the light of my phone screen, I answered the call and put it on speaker so she could also listen to her voice, I don't know why I did that.
"Alywna, thanks for answering, how have you been?" her voice was so pleasing to hear, it was like watching an ASMR video with earbuds on, it sends a shiver through my spine and makes me smile, with the few lights in the space coming from my phone I saw her smiling too. But it was still a grin, this time it was wilder and gave me the 'You like her' look.
"GOOD!" I say, unnecessarily loud, I correct myself "I mean...yeah, all good, how about you?" she laughs a bit and answers with a simple "Fine, thanks" and kept talking "So...Shinya wanted to see you at the office today, it has to do with the lastest case, I don't know if you've seen the news, but there's this girl who's apparently lost since last week." I look at the numbers on the elevator's board, indicating that we're almost on the first floor. "Sure, just send me the address and I'll be there as soon as I can" Danae punches me slightly in my arm and points at the door. We're on the first floor already. Savi hung up and I put my phone in my bag.
As we walked out of the building, a girl approaches us and hands us a flayer, "You're invited to the Beuty Arts' play for Valentine's day!" she says excitedly and leaves. It said the time and the place, and it was obvious that they had some graphic designer to do it for them, the flayer was a light pink color with bold red calligraphy, the thickest font they could find, 'Love stories as you have never seen' was the title of their work, '10 different famous love stories in five minutes or less with a little twist' I have always loved arts, it's really interesting how people can pretend to be someone else, and be comfortable with it. Unfortunately, I won't be going to their play, but I know someone who could.
