Nathan shook his head. "It's the glamour around it. It seems empty on the outside, but once you get past the enchantment it'll be chaos. Considering the power Blake has, there'll be detectors, guards, charms, and Gosh knows what else."
(lol Carys chill it was a joke XD)
(I know, I know!)
"Greeaaat." Luke blew out a long breath. "Versus just the two of us on the outside. I hope you feel like some excitement."
Nathan smiled mirthlessly. "Bring it on." They walked up to the facade of the building. "I think stealth is the best way to go for now," he guessed. He reached out and settled his hand on the cold barrier of the glamour. "Have you ever crossed a glamour before?" he asked Luke.
"Not to my knowledge. Is it hard?"
This time it was a real laugh. "Understatement of the century."
He turned around. "It's your first time, so it'll be slightly worse than for me. It's painful, hard, and you'll be too dizzy and tired to move once on the other side. If you manage to get to the other side. There's a pull that tries to keep you back the whole way through, and it takes a whole lot of physical and mental effort to fight it. The most important thing is to keep your mind on your goal: Maddie and Crash."
Luke nodded seriously. "Am I guessing correctly when I say that it might draw some attention to us as well? Might we need a distraction to buy us some time?"
(I'm so good at subtle hints lol)
(lol ^^ we're learning)
Nathan considered. "We'll definitely need some time to recover, though I'm not sure how much. It depends on the person; it usually takes me a good 6 hours to fully recover, though I've recently been injured. You've never done this… I'm estimating at least 8 hours, if not more."
"Jeez! That's a long frickin' time! And what about once we're in? We'll have to find a place to hunker down, try not to get noticed, maybe scope out the enemy a bit…..yeah." Luke shook his head. "I should at least let Maddie know we're close before we do this."
(Still here btw)
(gotcha, almost there)
Nathan nodded. "Definitely let her know. And, don't worry, it'll be 8 hours for us to fully recover, get back our strength and so on. We'll be able think straight and walk around in half that."
"Sounds good. One second." Fishing out his tracker, he turned it on and spoke quietly into it. "Psst. Mads. You there?"
I woke up to small noise. The girl from before had left, and I didn’t know what time it was. Crash was still asleep but I heard Luke voice from the tracker. “Luke? Thank god. Is Nathan ok?”
"Yeah, he'll live. We're just outside the fortress of doom, and we're about to head inside. Trouble is, we'll need time to catch our breath once we're in. Don't suppose you could whip us up a little diversion, something to keep Blake from watching the front door?"
Crash woke up as Luke was talking, and listened with renewed light in his eyes. "What's a diversion?"
I looked a Crash. “Something to distract someone while other people do something,” I spoke back into the tracker. “We’ll think of something.”
"Thanks a million. Be careful." Luke turned off the tracker and nodded at Nathan. "Okay, let's do this."
I looked at Crash. “Crash?” I said “Would you… um.. be willing to make Blake believe you want to give him some of your… umm… aura?”
He stared at you. "Why?"
“You don’t have to, of course, but it would distract him long enough. I can distract the guards but I might need to talk to Blake about it first.”
Nathan took a deep breath and stepped forward. He reached out a hand, and it slid easily into the glamour. He imagined Maddie, vulnerable and scarred, floating in the lake, and Crash, confused but always positive. He took another step, and he was immersed. The feeling came immediately: as if boiling oil was cascading down his body, salt and acid running down the burns. His mind was frozen, blank, unreachable. He cried out and fought to maintain the faces in his mind, managing a difficult step forward. He fought against the pull, repeating Maddie and Crash's names, concentrating only on putting one foot in front of the other. The agony was non-stop, but he pushed past it and mercifully, a foot breached the other side of the glamour. He exhaled and breathed in the smoky air on the other side.
He opened his eyes and collapsed to his knees, shaking uncontrollably.
(Mind if I answer Nathan first, then get back to Maddie and Crash?)
(Not at all, go ahead)
