Alec stopped moving altogether as he peered through one of the large windows in the front of the shop. He strained his ears, listening for movement outside. Sure enough, he heard foot steps once again. How much worse can this get? First one person sneaking up on me, and now (maybe) someone else coming over here.
As Nykidia got closer to the shop she felt like she was being watched. "Stop" she told herself. "No one is watching you. Calm down." That didn't help one bit.
Keeping his eyes fixed on the window, Alec listened as the footsteps became louder, suddenly echoing in his head. That was one thing that he had come to completely despise in this new, quiet world. His sense of hearing. Everything was either horribly loud or blocked out altogether.
She rounded the corner talking to her self. "Stop. your freaking your self out. There's probably no one here. Your over reacting" She said to herself out loud not paying attention to her surroundings.
Alec's eyes narrowed as he watched the girl round the corner, and come into view of the shop. He let out a long sigh, "And just what do you want…?" He mumbled, just loud enough for the stranger to hear. How many people are going to pop up today? If I were superstitious I'd think they were all coming back from the dead…
Nykidia jumped back and almost fell. She took out a Knife. "What do you mean?" She said slowly walking towards Alec. "How many of you are here?" She said looking around.
"What do I mean?" Alec mumbled once more, his eyes still narrowed. "You're the one with a knife… Well there is the one behind you. She just kind of showed up, just like you." Glancing at the knife, he added, "And by, what do you want, I meant exactly what I said. There usually isn't anyone here but me, and now here are two new people." Alec slid down the counter, and sat down. "And in the same day," he added, a slight panic creeping into his tone.
"I-I, Sorry" she said putting the knife away. "I'm a bit jumpy. I've been alone for a while. Here let's start off again. Hi I'm Nykidia."
Alec looked up from his place on the floor and gave a curt nod. "I'm used to being alone as well, it's weird with both of you showing up in the same day. My name is Alec." Motioning to Enyln, he added, "I don't even think she knew that. We haven't talked about much."
"I don't even know where I am. I just followed a road and hoped there would be a town. Is that coffee?" She said looking to the coffee pot. "I haven't had coffee in almost a year."
Enyln cocked her head at the new person and narrowed her eyes at Alec, its a trap- run. the voice still screamed seeming to fade into a throbbing in her head. She didn't bother giving out her name yet. "And y'all don't know each other?"
Alec turned his head back to look at the pour-over equipment. "No, we don't know each other…But yes, that is coffee. It's a bit inconvenient, but still coffee." He snapped back to look at Nykidia. "You can try making some if you want. You just need to pour hot water over the ground up beans that we have; there is more in the back."
"Nope. I honestly just want coffee now." she said walking over to the coffee pot and then walked around trying to find a cup for the coffee.
Alec went on explaining his limited knowledge, "You just put a coffee filter in the funnel, and then the beans and you pour the hot water over it; a cup goes on the bottom."
Enyln listened to Alec describe the way to make coffee as she questioned why she hadn't left yet. "Make coffee often?"
"OK thanks," She said following his instructions. After she finished the instructions she gulped the entire cup. "OMG This is sooo good."
Alec looked over to Enyln and shook his head, motioning to the equipment with flick of his hand. "No, not really. I've been here for a few weeks, so in that time yes. But before all of this happened I hardly ever drank coffee, much less touched something like that."
(I've got to go, I'll reply in the morning though.)
(The morning for Eastern time, that is.)
