“For what?” Rupert said absently. “No, it’s no problem.”
“For what?” Rupert said absently. “No, it’s no problem.”
Jace wiggled off of his chair and bounded over to Rupert, grabbing his hand. “Don’t be sad, please!”
Rupert laughed, but there was no humor in the sound. “I’m not sad, Jace. Don’t worry.”
Jace frowned a little and hugged Rupert’s legs. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” Rupert said, placing his hand on Jace’s shoulder but not pushing him away.
Jace’s mouth went straight and he let Rupert go. “Okay!”
Rupert, in a desperate attempt to change the subject, said, “How about we go down to the kitchen and get the ice cream (it was ice cream right) ourselves?”
(Yes it was ice cream)
Jace nodded. “Iiiiiiiice creeeeeeeaaaaam!” He exclaimed happily in a singsong voice.
//:D
Rupert laughed. “This way!” He led Jace to the kitchen.
Jace tailed Rupert to the kitchen, singing as any kid would about ice cream. Jace loved ice cream, obviously, because he had it so fleetingly. Sure, the change in lifestyles was different, but it was a good one.
Rupert couldn’t help but smile at Jace’s energy. He was glad that, so far, he was doing most things right. “Here it is!” Rupert announced, opening the fridge and handing Jace a pint of ice cream.
Jace blinked at the pint as he took it. “Um… dis is a lot of ice cream!” He looked up at Rupert.
“You don’t have to eat all of it,” Rupert laughed, getting two spoons out of a drawer. “Just as much as you want.”
Jace looked a little stressed at that. “But it’s so much! If I eat as much as I want I’ll get in trouble!”
“No, you won’t,” Rupert said, sobering. “I promise, nothing bad will happen to you here.”
Jace gazed up at Rupert fearfully. “Are you sure?”
“Positive,” Rupert nodded. “I promise. Eat as much as you want.”
Jace nodded and took the spoon. “Okay… thank you.”
“Anytime,” Rupert smiled, taking his own pint from the fridge. “Ice cream is yummy, huh?”
Jace nodded and tried fighting the spoon into the ice cream. He fought too hard and it slipped out of his hands.
“Whoops!” Rupert caught the spoon as it fell. “We May wasn’t to wait a few minutes for it to defrost.”
Jace bent down carefully and picked up the container of ice cream. “Ye-yeah, I guess we should.”
“Yep.” Rupert handed Jace his spoon. “Don’t worry, it’s not a big deal.”
Jace sat down the container to thaw out. He shuffled nervously and spun the spoon in his hands.
There were a few minutes of silence before Rupert said, “It should be ok now.”
