"Thank you, father." Savannah dipped her head politely, careful to not let her tiara fall. She carefully lifted her veil over her face, again minding the tiara, before taking her father's arm. It's finally time… within the next hour, I'm going to be married to someone I met a week ago. All I can hope is that we can learn to love each other and be good rulers of the kingdom.
"Yes." As he stood fixing his hair, he took a deep breath. They lead him down a few halls before appearing in front of large wooden doors. two servants opened this door and he walked down to the altar to wait for his bride. How is she feeling? Does she feel like me? Doubting our decision as well? So many questions ran through his mind. As he stood there his heart pounded.
The pianist began playing the iconic wedding song and the doors in front of Savannah opened. She was frozen for a moment, but her father's gentle tugging on her arm brought her back to her senses and she began walking. The photographers on the sides were taking lots of pictures again, and everyone was staring at her. Of course, this is all normal for a wedding, but it still made Savannah a bit nervous. They made it up to the altar and Savannah stood opposite Damian.
The king and queen took their seats at the front row of the pews, watching with proud smiles for both their daughter and the prince. The room was silent, save for the priest starting the traditional speech.
Damian took her hands and smiled. This was all so weird, and just new to him. Did his parents do this? If they did they are either really convincing or they actually fell in love at some point. The preacher laid a cloth over their hands and tied it at the bottom. He then poured oil over their hands. Damian always wondered what a wedding in a big kingdom was like.
Strange… Savannah had been told about wedding ceremonies, but it was still quite strange to experience it herself. The priest continued with the vows, and Savannah listened intently for when she needed to speak. Finally, the priest got to the ‘I do’ part of the vows, and Savannah said her part.
"I do." The words sounded foreign to him. It was almost like living the biggest lie. But he knew he would be fine. Even if they didn't fall in love, the least they could be was friends.
“I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.” The priest said. Savannah looked up at Damian for a moment before kissing him, applause sounding loudly in the background. She could hear the shutters of cameras and knew that this would be the front page of the paper the next morning.
Damian turned with his wife and smiled. He waved to the crowd. Next was the reception, food dancing, partying. This was going to be his favorite part, he just knew it. "Should we get going." One other thing he was going to like, is that only friends and family will be allowed in there. So no pretending to be perfect.
Georgiana's heart fluttered in anticipation for the reception. She was a bit nervous that someone might try to talk to her, but her happiness for the princess overruled her fear.
Damian lead Savannah to the building in the back. This building was more modern and less old churchy. As soon as the doors open, you can see how hard people have worked on the room. And the food smelt amazing. "I can't wait to eat." He laughed and took her to the table. "Here." He moved the chair so it would be easier for her to get in.
Savannah sat down and thanked Damian. She wished she’d thought to bring a different dress for dancing, since she knew her wedding dress would be difficult to dance in. Wait… the dress I bought last week! When everyone was distracted with dancing, Savannah silently got up and went to her room to change. She got into her casual dress as quickly as she could and ran back to the reception building. Luckily, it wasn’t too far away and she was only gone about ten minutes.
Caspian and Lillian spoke to family members, discussing the plans for the kingdoms in the following weeks. Lillian took a moment to scan the area. She saw her daughter, now in one of her casual dresses. She smiled, shaking her head and she walked over, and she leaned into Savannah's side.
"Can't dance in your wedding dress, hm?"
“The thing is massive! There’s no way I could dance in something like that.” Savannah grinned, smoothing down her dress. It was still pretty and modest, but it was much easier to move around in. “Who all came, by the way? I can see a couple more distant relatives and some of Damian’s friends, but it’s hard to see everybody.”
Lillian laughed, patting Savannah's shoulder. "Trust me, you aren't the only one. And, nearly every one of our relatives and close friends from the neighboring kingdoms is in attendance. This is a very important day for you and Damian, so anyone who could make it did."
“Wow… we have a lot of relatives, hmm?” Savannah looked around at the crowd, vaguely in awe. Wonder how all of them are related to us, anyway? “I suppose Damian will be living here now, right? Since we’re married and all…” God, that sounds strange to say.
"Hm…well, I suppose so; a king and queen can't exactly rule together from separate kingdoms. That is up for the two of you to decide, though."
Caspian joined them a few moments later, looking over Savannah with a raised brow. "Can't dance in the wedding dress?" He asked, and Lillian giggled and shook her head.
Savannah shook her head as well, smiling a bit. "It's lovely, but impossible to move around in. Nice tux." She looked at her father's outfit. He didn't normally wear things like this, but the simplicity was quite nice.
Caspian smiled and held his head a little higher. "Thank you, dear. It was my father's, you know, and I am very poud to be wearing it on such an occasion." He looked over at Damian, who seemed busy at the moment. "Are you ready to dance with him? It should be just a few more minutes."
"Yes, father. I'll let him talk with his friends for a bit longer. He likes to hang out with them, and I wouldn't want to take that from him." Savannah straightened her tiara, watching Damian and the rest of his little group. She and him would have plenty of alone time now that they were married, so she didn't feel she needed to intrude.
All of Damian's friends came and he was extremely happy about that. The only thing was, his parents and family couldn't make it. With all the storms in his country, there was too much work to do there. "Guess I'll have to visit later." He finished up with his friends and walked over to Savannah. "Are you ready to dance?"
Savannah nodded and took Damian’s hand, smiling. She was glad that no one minded her changing; it was just the reception after all. The pianist began playing some music so everyone could dance. Savannah and Damian were meant to be in the center of the room, so they danced there. The photographers were still there, which was a bit annoying, but Savannah didn’t mind too much.
"For our honeymoon, I was wondering if we could visit my country. Its extremely beautiful. But I mean if you had another place in mind, that's fine." Many people from around the world went there for vacation, so he figured it be a good place. Plus she would get to see where he grew up and meet his family. Damian tried to ignore all the people around and just focus on the two of them.
“That sounds good to me. I’d love to meet your family.” The music slowed down and Savannah and Damian swayed with it. “It’s a shame they couldn’t come… I hope they can clear everything up with the storms soon. It’s lucky that no one was seriously hurt, though.”
Caspian and Lillian smile at the couple, Lillian subtly bouncing in her place. Caspian noted all of the photographers and figured that they had all the pictures they'd need, so he sent a couple of guards over to move away anyone with a camera.
