He sat down on the floor.

“Is it like physical pain or… mental?”

"Sometimes mental and physical go hand in hand…"

“So is it both then?”, she pressed softly, fearing the answer.

"Somewhat." He mumbled against the balls of his hands.

“Cruz?” Her tone was fearful, but not for herself, for him. “Did you harm yourself?”

He looked back to her, almost sharply, "No,"

Fae relaxed immediately. “Oh thank— good.” She swallowed. “Any idea what it might be?”

"Just anxious. It'll pass.." he reassured.

“I have complete with that you can work through whatever this is, but I can’t believe you’re ‘just anxious’.”, Fae told him gently.

"It's—" he inhaled, "It's like, well— I don't know..!"

Fae backed off, giving him space. “Sorry for pressing. Do you want me to give you some time to yourslef?”

"No," he exhaled, rubbing his face. "I'm sorry."

“Don’t be sorry, I’m the one who was intrusive.”, she assured him quietly, rubbing his arm.

He leaned against her, sighing a little.

She planted a kiss on his forehead, continuing to rub his arm in slow, soothing motions.

He kept his eyes closed, breath moving in fluid, calmed inhales and exhales.

Fae gave him a light squeeze. “You seem tired, let’s get back to the room so you don’t fall asleep right now.”, she prompted gently.

"Okay." He whispered in acquiescence.

She helped him up, allowing him to lean on her as she led him back to his room.

His head drooped against her shoulder.

She pulled the covers up over him, slipping in beside him with one hand wrapped protectively around his. “Get some sleep, mm?”

"Don't leave," he asked with quiet urgence, his eyelids drooping.

“I’m right beside you, don’t worry.” Fae squeezed his shoulder, laying her head in the pillow next to his and pressing a kiss to his cheek.

He exhaled a sigh, dipping back off into a languid doze.
