Elide frowned a little, “Are you sure? Because I feel kinda bad…”
Elide frowned a little, “Are you sure? Because I feel kinda bad…”
"Don't, it's fine.", Phoebe assured her, sipping at her iced fruit tea. Josh nodded. "Don't even try, she'll probably sneak into your house to put the money back in your wallet."
Elide rolled her eyes a little but nodded, “Alright, if you say so.” She said, taking a bite of her muffin.
(Skip or stay? sorry i'm sorta braindead)
(It’s fine and… we could skip till after school or something?)
(sure!)
Phoebe was at her locker again, trying to force it open while chatting with Lance, a guy from her AP English class. They didn't know each other very well, but he seemed nice enough.
Elide hummed quietly as she grabbed her things from her locker quickly before pulling out her phone. She frowned down at the message on her screen, one from her ‘mum’ about how Elide was going to be home alone tonight… again. She sighed and out her phone away as she headed to find Phoebe.
"Mrs. Constantino is so much better than Ms. DePoache!", Lance said, ruffling his ash-blond hair. "Agreed.", Phoebe nodded, finally managing to yank her locker open. "What do you think of the Creative Writing assignment?"
Elide headed towards Phoebe's locker, noticing another guy there and was about to say something when her phone rang, her 'mum,' again, "Hi." She slowly walked over to the pair.
Hey there, sorry you have to be alone again tonight. Something came up at work and Damien is working late.
"It's fine, I understand."
School been okay?"
"Yeah, fine."
There was a sigh on the other end of the phone, Okay, you know you can talk to me, right?
"I know."
Alrighty, see you tomorrow night.
"See you tomorrow." She hung up.
Phoebe looked around, searching for Elide, but she was nowhere to be seen. Turning her attention back to Lance, she hoisted her backpack out of her locker, closing and locking it.
Elide let out a little groan and stuffed her phone in her pocket before walking over to Phoebe and tapping her on the shoulder to let her know she was there.
Phoebe jumped, turning to see who it was. A smile lit up her face when her eyes landed on Elide. "Hey!" She hugged her lightly, gesturing to Lance. "Elide, this is Lance. Lance, Elide."
Elide was a little surprised at the Hug but returned it before turning to Lance. “Hi there.” She smiled a little at him.
Lance gave her a slightly awkward smile in return. "Hey. You're the new girl, right?" Phoebe shot him a look meaning 'Maybe be a little more sensitive?'
Elide sighed and nodded, “News travels fast in this school.” She said, looking down at her feet for a moment.
Sensing he was making her uncomfortable, Lance took a step backwards. "I gotta go catch the bus, see you guys tomorrow." Phoebe waved goodbye, immediately turning back to Elide. "Sorry about that. How are you?"
Elide shrugged and looked up at Phoebe with a small sigh, “Fine, I guess. Tired mainly. What about you?”
Phoebe gave her a concerned once over. "You guess? And I've learned not to believe people when they say 'fine' or 'just tired.' What's up?"
Elide shook her head a little, “Nothing, don’t worry about me.” She gave Phoebe a small smile to prove her point.
Phoebe frowned slightly, but decided to lay off. "Where do you live? Maybe we could walk home together.", she offered, changing the subject.
“Sure, I live about twenty minutes walk from here.” Elide said, opening up her maps on her phone to check the way back again.
Phoebe leaned over to peer at Elide's phone, chewing on her bottom lip. "I actually live only two streets down from you!"
Elide’s eyes lit up, “Really? That’s so great!” She smiled more and out her phone away, “Let’s get going then.”
Phoebe grinned and nodded. They took a shortcut across the field, laughing and chatting. "How was your first day?"
“Pretty good. I met you and Josh didn’t I? So that’s been the best part.” Elide said, smiling up at her.
