He chuckled lightly, looking at it. "It's okay." He looked at her for a moment. "What now?" He could probably walk her to class before skipping his next one, that is, if she wanted to even go.
He chuckled lightly, looking at it. "It's okay." He looked at her for a moment. "What now?" He could probably walk her to class before skipping his next one, that is, if she wanted to even go.
She looked into his eyes. “I honestly don’t know,” she said. “I guess I should go back to class, but I’m going to be late and I’d rather not have to explain why.” She sighed.
"We can always skip…" He felt stupid offering it to her, but she didn't seem to be in the shape to go to class. He didn't want to risk her to the rest of the world.
“Okay,” she said. “Let’s skip.” She was a little surprised that she agreed so quickly, but then she realized that had been what she wanted anyway. Right now she wasn’t sure if she could face her classmates.
"Let's go then." He took her hand, looking in the hallway to ensure no one was there. He walked out bringing her with him as he walked out the door into the windy day.
Fern smiled as her short hair blew around in her wind, using her hand that wasn’t in Zavian’s to wipe at the remaining tears on her face that hadn’t quite dried yet. She felt a rush of excitement for breaking the rules, though she felt many of her peers would probably laugh about that. Already she was feeling a little bit better.
They made their way into the forest, heading to his house. He figured that his grandma would be asleep at the moment. Even if she was awake, he could explain.
Fern noticed they were going towards his house, close to where they had gone the first time she had skipped school. She smiled at the memory, before thoughts of Jay made her cringe. She shook it off, trying not to dwell on it, but it still bothered her.
As they got to the fence.m, he turned to her. "We'll probably have to sneak through the window." He felt bad to ask that of her, but if his grandma saw him at home before school was out, she'd worry about him.
Fern shrugged. “It’s payback for when I made you climb out my window,” she joked. “I don’t mind.”
He laughed. "If you say so." His window was a little high, high enough to make him have to lift her a little ways up. He came to the window. "Ready?"
She nodded. “Ready.” She looked at him, trusting him. Her short hair continued to blow around in the wind, which annoyed her.
"Okay." He grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up. She was actually pretty light. "There should be a little latch and then you can open it and climb through."
She looked for it for a moment before finding it. “Got it,” she said as she opened it. Once she had gotten the window opened, she grabbed on and then began to climb through, falling onto the floor inside.
Zavian jumped up and took a hold onto the window, using his upper body strength to pull himself up and into the room. "You okay?"
“Fine,” she replied, getting up and brushing herself off. “Like a little bit winded is all.” She smiled to show him that everything was okay, though she felt like she might have a couple of bruises (she bruised like a peach).
He could see the bruises Beginning to form. "That's a little bit more than winded." He walked up to her, gently taking her hand. "I'll just get some ice packs real quick, okay?"
“I’m fine,” she protested. “I just bruise easily.”
"Are you sure?" He didn't want her to bruise too badly. He figured the ice pack would help swelling as well as the pain. Not only that, he was worried that some of the brusies had come from Jay considering what he'd done. "I can go get some real quick, it's not a big deal."
Fern knew he only wanted to help, so she gave in. “Okay, if you think it’ll help,” she agreed with a sigh, not wanting her injuries to be fussed over when they were so minimal. Though if she was completely honest, it did feel kind of nice.
Zavian smiled wide, glad to feel like he could help. "Be right back." He quietly made his way out of the room, still unsure if his grandma was awake.
Fern waited for him to come back, checking the spots she hurt the worst. The bruises didn’t look too bad to her.
Zavian snuck into the kitchen still seeing no sight of his grandma. He opened the freezer and grabbed a few ice packs before hurrying back to the room, carefully closing the door behind him. She must be asleep… The packs were cold in his hands as he walked to her. "Here they are."
“Thanks,” she said, taking a couple and putting them on her bruises. She smiled at him.
"No problem." He sat down on his bed. "Is it helping at all?" You're being pesky. He knew he was, he just wanted her to be okay. Maybe it was guilt.
