Jay shook his head again. He stiffened at the sound of gunshots, sitting up and hand going to his hip where his own pistol was. His blue eyes flashed.
Jay shook his head again. He stiffened at the sound of gunshots, sitting up and hand going to his hip where his own pistol was. His blue eyes flashed.
"Stay calm," Delia whispered, one again reaching out and grabbing his shoulder tightly, "Please, don't draw attention to us." She was clearly not calm either though, her eyes wide as she glanced up at the ceiling above them, "We just have to stay calm."
Jay took a deep breath, hand still resting on his pistol. He clenched his jaw, wishing he could stand up and pace.
"They'll deal with whatever is up there and we just have to listen and stay calm," She whispered both to herself or to him as she tried to keep herself calm too. Sitting down here made her feel like a sitting duck and she hated it, the walls felt like they were closing in on her and keeping a hand on Jay was the only thing that was keeping her stable.
Jay nodded. "Yeah." He breathed. He took a deep breath again, and shook his head a little. "They better."
The gunshots continued to go on sporadically for several minutes, the noise getting louder every so often then fading back before sounding even closer to the stairwell. Delia just pressed her eyes shut and held onto Jay's shoulder, focusing on Leo's soft whines and everything but the noise or the walls as they felt like they just kept closing in.
Jay wrapped an arm around Delia's shoulders, silent and waiting to hear what would happen. He closed his eyes.
Delia became slightly more calm as it became quiet again, though as the minutes ticked by wit no more news as to what was happening, it was making her more anxious. She figured it was some sort of strike by the alien drones that normally patolled over the area, but it could really be anything.
Jay took a deep breath, not sure what to do. Not sure what was happening, or what he could do about it, if anything. He doubted that there was anything he could do.
As the sound of footsteps clomped down the stairs several minutes later, she froze up and her eyes flicked to the stairs, waiting to see what or who it was.
Jay opened his eyes, gaze flicking to the stairs suspiciously. Who would this be?
Soon it was clear that it was just a soldier, hopefully one who was there to report what had happened. They stopped by the bottom of the stairs and looked out over everyone, clearly repeating information in a loud voice, "Thank you for cooperating, as many of you might wonder, what just happened was an overhead strike by the alien drones. This attack did not succeed, but it does mean that we are now accepting more civilians to join our forces, seeing as now is the opportune time to strike the ship again."
(Merry Christmas!)
Jay clenched his jaw a little bit, wondering if he had led the aliens here. If they had found this place because of him. He ran a hand through his hair, not taking off his hat. He held onto Leo.
(Merry christmas to you too!)
Delia immediately looked over at Jay, then back at the soldier, "Should we try to join? This could be the chance to strike back." She knew he probably wouldn't want to, but it was worth a shot since she most likely wouldn't be accepted due to her leg.
"I can't." Jay replied softly. "Not with all the stuff in my head." he shook his head a little bit. "Not with…I'd be signing my own death sentence." And I'm too selfish for that.
She seemed a little disappointed but nodded, asking, "Do you think I should still try to join? Maybe as not an active soldier until my leg healed, but still helping in some way?" This was her chance to actually try to take out the thing in the sky, even if it was a death sentence for herself. She only had one question though. If the ship in the sky was destroyed, what would happen to Jay?
Jay shrugged. "It's your choice." He replied. Leo whined, and he petted the dog gently, eyes distant and far away. He shook his head quickly, refocusing on her again.
Delia nodded, watching as others started talking among themselves and the soldier continued his message, "The alert is over and you now can return back to your daily activities. If you have questions about enlisting, talk to any soldier."
"Can we go back up to the regular level?" She asked Jay, itching to get away from this amount of people and to somewhere where the walls didn't feel like they closed in quite as much.
Jay nodded. "Come on." he started walking, gently pulling her along as he headed for the stairs. He needed to get out of ehre.
She fixed her crutches under her arms as quickly as she could and hurried along with him, wanting to beat the crowd to the stairs so she didn't get trampled as she tried to climb up them as fast as she could.
Jay kept moving, staying beside her. His eyes were narrowed with concentration.
"Where are we going to go?" She asked Jay as she continued up the stairs, "Back to our room or somewhere else?"
"Room." Jay replied. He was still thinking in terms of what was defendable. Their room was. One entrance, they could hold out inside it if need be.
Delia nodded, seeing that he seemed very focused and not wanting to interrupt at all. Once they reached the top of the stairs, she moved a lot faster though and started towards their room.
