"I meant Indoors too much. I just can't think I guess." Jay replied with a smile.
"I meant Indoors too much. I just can't think I guess." Jay replied with a smile.
"Ay it's alright, I get this is all so new to you." Kale shrugged as they exited the hospital. They released a heavy breath of relief the moment the clear air washed over their head. "Well, we have loads of time, is there anything you want to do while we are out?"
Jordan had already fallen back asleep
"I can't think of anything. What about you choose." Jay said as he breathed in the pure clean air
Kale instantly regretted not taking any money from the care home, he could have treated Jay to something, and perhaps bought a gift for Jordan for when he got out of hospital.
"From what I remember, there's a park nearby. All the younger children love it, it has swings and a climbing frame and a tower and everything. We could go there.. Or wait! There's a field just off the highway, it usually has flowers this time of year. I could make a flower crown!"
"Just choose something." Jay said sensing the excitement in Kales voice.
"It's so hard to decide!" they exclaimed, grinning broadly. Kale pondered for a moment before coming to a conclusion, there was something that just had to be done. "Come on!" they chuckled, taking Jay's hand in theirs. In no time at all, they found themselves in a large green field of long grass. It stretched for miles as far as the eye could see. Clusters of trees were dotted in several places, and brightly colored flowers bloomed wildly. "The field.. it has to be done."
Jay nodded and smiled he could smell the smell of the flowers everywhere. The whole place felt calm and peaceful.
Kale started to wade through the field, holding tightly to Jay's hand, being extra careful not to step on any of the smaller flowers. "I wouldn't mind having a little cottage in a field like this. I'd wake up every morning, greeted by beautiful flowers, and I'd know that it would be a good day."
"i think that is a great idea. always peaceful in a way." Jay said with a smile as they ran.
"I should invest in one, you could live with me too if you wanted." Kale came to a halt under the shade of a large oak tree. Daisies sprouted all around them. Perfect! he thought, slowly dropping down to his knees. "This is the perfect place!"
"maybe." Jay said answering what he had said then sat down on the ground also. He felt the sharp prickly Grass around him.
Kale set to work gathering all the daisies they needed, humming lightly. "I haven't done this for quite some time, so I hope it works out alright."
They started weaving the flowers together, thankful that he had the nails to make small holes in each stem. After a lot of sighing, cursing, and almost giving up, the flower crown was almost finished. They turned to Jay, a sheepish lopsided grin on their face as they gently placed the crown on Jay's head. It fit perfectly. They sat back and admired what they had done. "It doesn't look half bad!"
"thanks. I'm glad you think it looks nice. Even though your process of making it sounded hard and complicated."
"Like I said, it has been a while." Kale rubbed the back of their head with an annoyed groan. "And the stems kept breaking on me, it's hard not to get frustrated at that!"
"I guess it is a difficult thing to make a flower crown."
"Not when you make them on a daily basis like I used to do with my mum." Kale sighed. "After all this time you kind of forget how to make them quickly, and without breaking as many as I did."
"though you can't completely forget. Muscle memory might remember how to do it. I bet if you tried hard enough you could make one with your eyes closed.
"It will take a while wise guy, it's been twelve years since I have even touched a flower never mind woven a crown." they chuckled sadly, leaning their head on Jay's shoulder. "It's so peaceful…. I could stay here for hours."
"yeah. I agree." Jay replied and leaned his head slightly on Kales head.
They inhaled deeply, closing their eyes, listening to the rustling of grass in the breeze.
Jay listened to all of the sounds around the area. It was all so peaceful.
Kale put one arm around Jay and hugged him gently. "I'm happy I got stuck at Lone Pines, I met you, and I'm happy that you've stayed with me.. Although part of me thinks I didn't give you much of a choice."
"aw it's fine. I like hanging out with you." Jay said with a smile.
"Jay.." Kale lifted their head to look at Jay. "I do honestly feel I have not really given you the choice in anything, and I'm sorry for that. I want you to know that I will always think to put you first from now on."
