"Sorry, flowers probably aren't your thing." Kale immediately felt embarrassed. "Next time, tell me before I start making a fool of myself."
"Sorry, flowers probably aren't your thing." Kale immediately felt embarrassed. "Next time, tell me before I start making a fool of myself."
"I wouldn't know if they aren't my thing. Though they do smell great."
"They smell great…" For some reason this made Kale chuckle. They realised that someone was saying their name, and turned to find one of the workers looking at them in confusion. "I guess it's my time for interrogation." Kale muttered to Jay. "I won't be long." They followed the worker out of the room, and into a little office where the questioning began.
Jay nodded and sat there alone.
They tried to make Kale talk about if they remembered anything from their past or if they had any next of kin, of course Kale denied everything. As far as anyone else was concerned, Kale didn't remember their parents and there were no next of kin. It was better that way. The questions kept coming, and Kale answered them as carefully as possible.
Jay listened to the conversations of nearby people.
With the questions finally over, Kale returned to the dining room. "Alright Jay, you're up."
Jay nodded and stood. He walked slowly listening to his surroundings. He discreetly put his hand on the wall to help guide himself. Soon he sat down and started his session.
Kale didn't bother sitting down at the table again, instead they decided to explore the new building while they waited for Jay.
Jay got asked many questions. Some of them he had to laugh at because of what they asked. Soon enough they found out he was blind and dismissed him out of embarrassment.
Kale found the back door, which led to a vast garden. An actual garden with grass that wasn't half dead. A tall wooden fence ran all the way around to stop anyone from getting in. "And anyone getting out." Kale sighed, turning to look at the back of the building. Everything was normal. Normal windows, normal brickwork, normal roof tiles. But the figure in the second floor window set Kale on edge. It's that boy again, what's his problem?
Kale shoved their hands into their pockets and strolled back inside.
Jay walked out of the dining room and kept close to the wall as he walked.
Kale found themselves staring at a set of frames on the wall by the main entrance. The man (screw it I'm calling him Chris now) was sat with a couple of other workers, including the woman (Wendy?), and a group of children stood in front of them. In each picture Kale could see some of the children grow up, while others came and left. "What an odd little family…"
Jay had no idea where he was. All he knew was he was still on the first floor of the home.
Kale sighed, wandering back to the office to try and find Jay, only to realise that he had gone. "Jay??"
Jay kept walking down the hallway. He didn't hear many people.
Kale made their way around the bottom floor, checking every room for Jay. "Seriously, wise guy, where are you?"
Jay suddenly bumped into someone. "So sorry."
"It is ok."
He had no idea who he was talking to.
Kale passed someone in the corridor. "Have you seen Jay?"
"Just passed him, he's heading to the rec room."
"Thanks."
Kale made their way down the hallway and saw Jay walking along the wall. "Jay."
Jay turned when he heard someone say his name. "Yes?"
"Me. Kale?" Kale approached him and placed their hand on his shoulder. "Apparently you're heading for a rec room."
"Kale, I know it is you. I could tell by your voice. And also I have no idea where I am going." Jay said to him.
"I know, that's why I just told you where you are going." Kale chuckled.
"Fair point." Jay replied with a smile.
"So what do you think, are we staying?"
