His eyes widened and he bit down on his lip, tears instinctively coming to his eyes, though his feelings didn’t even seem to waver. He didn’t understand…was he a monster? Why did he feel nothing but hate even as he began to cry. “H-he did?”
"Today was the first day since that he even got out of bed. He's weak, Rafael. Is this what you wanted?" Daine's jaw was set- he obviously had strong things he wanted to tell Rafael about how the man has treated the demon's friend.
“I-I….” He stammered out, unable to find the right words to respond. He put his head in his hands. “What’s wrong with me” he muttered to himself.
"A lot, obviously." Daine didn't care about Rafael, not after what he had done. "Especially if knowing your actions almost killed someone doesn't affect you."
He felt….broken. Like there was something seriously messed up with him. How had things gotten so wrong so quickly. He didn’t know what to do to fix himself. But he desperately wanted to.
Daine shook his head.
"The only reason you haven't been killed yet is because Arien has insisted we don't." Daine scowled.
"It must be pitiful, to have the man you hate be the one protecting you even now. Scum."
((Honestly we stan Arien’s friends for supporting him this much though))
And of course that made him feel like he should be angry, that even now Arien was still controlling him. But he didn’t genuinely feel it, it was just a shadow of an emotion. His hand tightened a bit on the doorframe but that was really it. He didn’t even know what to say anymore. Words were pointless anyway, he could never seem to say what he truly wanted to these days.
(yeee they're gud friends)
Daine scoffed.
"Really? You're angry that the man you hurt so much won't let his friends kill you?" Daine took a step forward now, getting too close.
"I could fix that."
“Just go ahead and do it, anything’s better than what things are like right now.” He just hoped his family would be okay. Not like he was of much use to them right now anyway.
This made Daine pause a moment. He reached out, taking ahold of Rafael's shirt.
"Tell me one last thing- do you regret it? Do you regret anything you did?"
“Yes.” He said, answering more out of pure instinct. When he tried to figure out what exactly he regretted though, his thoughts started to get murky.
This was a surprise to Daine. He let go of Rafael's shirt for a moment.
"I see…" He took a step away.
“Is there anything else you want to harass me about?” He asked, a bit of his old sarcasm coming back, “or can you leave me alone now?”
Daine scowled, but he left without another word. Rafael wasn't worth wasting his time or effort.
At hearing the other walk away, Rafael closed the door, making sure to lock it before carefully making his way back to the couch. He sat down with a heavy sigh.
Rafael was left alone for a while, but there was another knock on the door eventually.
Rafael was tempted to not answer but, assuming it was Bruno, he knew the werewolf could and would break down his door. So, he reluctantly stood and opened the door. “What?” He asked tiredly.
It was, surprisingly, not actually Bruno.
"I see you finally made the right decision." Even if Elliot has gotten what he wanted, his voice want near as chipper anymore.
“What do you want?” He asked, his eyes narrowing a bit. His feelings toward Arien may have been altered but his negativity towards Elliot was still very much the same.
(PLEASE LET HIM REVERSE THE SPELL PLEASE!)
(shhhhhhhhhhhhh)
"I've come to take to you about what you did to Arien." Elliot shrugged, unaffected by Rafael's attitude towards him.
“Fine go ahead. Say whatever you want to say.” He wanted this man away from his home as quickly as possible.
"Are you okay with how you've treated him?" Elliot asked. He needed to know.
“Of course not. I was terrible to him. Even though I dislike him, that doesn’t excuse how I acted.”
Elliot nodded.
"I see. I see…" He looked Rafael up and down.
