Going to be out of town for litha, which I'm excited for in that I enjoy being outside there more than I do at home, but I also have to figure out how I'm going to throw together a portable altar

@ElderGod-Icefire

If you have any kind of small-ish container, you can put some of the core things you use in your craft in there, and take it along! That's what I'm planning on doing when I go on vacation granted, I only have like four crystals rn anyway so it isn't going to be hard for me lmao

@berlioz

Altoids cans are top tier altars, but even ziploc bags or your pants pocket can work. In my opinion altars can be virtual too, if you're into that. Like in a notes app have some pictures attached that inspire you and relate to your spirituality, then type up some prayers or spells, chants, etc.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Hey question for y'all: at a National Park a few months ago I got a little glass bottle full of tiny chips of Rose quartz. The bottle is sealed shut with a cork and I believe the cork is glued. Can I still use the crystals inside just in the container (just like, on my altar and with candles and such) without forcing open the cork and damaging it, or will I have to force it open? If I have to force it open, do you have any suggestions how?

@berlioz

I don't see why not! Crystals are used in spell jars all the time, so I figure they retain and output their "energies" or however you see it regardless of whether they're in a container or not. And since they're chips, it's probably better to leave them inside.

@berlioz

I picked up this old wooden cabinet/side table thing and it'll be perfect for an altar when I move out :D

Okay ik a pentacle is a star with a circle and a pentagram is one without, but I'm still confused about what the symbolic/representative differences and uses are? I can't really find anything about it

@berlioz

I'm not sure there is too much of a difference symbolically in pagan circles. I think the circle might represent more unity and infinity, but I don't think there's a strong religious difference.

Also, things I've learned over the past couple weeks:

-Just because you're interested in a god or pantheon or think your m/patron is a part of a certain pantheon doesn't mean you're right. Don't do what I did and limit your scope and block out things that "don't fit" your expectations.

-Saints are pretty poggers- many non-Catholic practitioners enjoy and report success working with them

-Playing cards are just as valid of a divination tool as tarot (and cheaper!)

-Who my m/patron god is :)))) (I'm pretty sure! Just don't feel cool sharing it online- at least yet?) and I'm fucking EXCITED 🎉🎉🎉

@berlioz

And a lil bit of Celtic lore for the summer solstice (I call it Samhradh) tomorrow. I'll keep it short.

So basically this really cool Celtic god named Manannán Mac Lir protects this island to the east of Ireland called the Isle of Man (hey! That's his name! Waow!). He's protected it with weather, such as magical mists shrouding the island from enemies and with illusions that make the Manx look really buff and loaded with tons of ships and stuff ready to defend the land even though their were none. The people thought this was really poggers, and asked Manannán how they could thank him. He only asked that every Samhradh the people pay their rents with rushes. Now, rushes are this really common water weed that farmers would want to get rid of anyway, so this is like double poggers because it's such an easy sacrifice. Win win, 10/10, very merciful!

I'd heard this before, but idk how you would read them? Do you know of any books/sites that would have a guide on that? Since my practice has to be very closeted, playing cards would be safer for me than trying to hide a deck of tarot cards

@Zoe-the-GM

I had to create my own tarot deck, I just don't have any drawings, so I can only read them by possible meanings, then ask my spirit guides for clarification .

I rely very heavily on my intuition for divination. When it comes to playing cards, they have really commonly held meanings- for example, the suit of hearts has to do with love life and diamonds has to do with finances. I don't stick to that completely, since the fun of the craft for me is making my own correspondences.
However, this list here says it was compiled by a professional tarot reader, and skimming through it I see a lot of commonalities between this correspondence list and the others.

How are your cards designed, if you don’t mind me asking? You mentioned that you don’t have drawings so I’m curious as to how you know which card is which ^^’

(Also completely unrelated but I know someone else who goes by the name ZJ and I thought you were them for a moment haha)

Look

I might actually draw everything, but that's a lot of work for 78 cards.

@Pickles group

Tarot cards: you cannot emotionally handle a break up right now
Pendulum: but don't worry, she doesn't think about you enough to think about breaking up with you (:

I mean..they're not WRONG-

@Pickles group

SHIT I forgot my pendulum at home. Could be adhd, could be me being forced to practice communication with tarot. Either way I'm not happy
