I know it's controversial, and I definitely don't agree with how far some states have taken it, but you have no idea how happy it makes me to see people finally standing up for the lives of children who can't yet speak for themselves…

Yes ^^^

We're doing a thing called At the Movies for my youth group and one of them was Unplanned, which is a movie about abortion basically and it was rated R for disturbing images or something and I was high-key upset by that

@The-N-U-T-Cracker

Funny how many of the same people saying Unplanned is too graphic for children to watch without an adult are also saying that minors should be allowed to get abortions without their parents consent…

@The-N-U-T-Cracker

Okay, I know not everyone here is pro-life, I’m not trying to start another debate, but my state might become the first without any abortion clinics.
There’s only one left somewhere in St Louis and it’s closing down.

You have no idea how happy that makes me…

@ravens

 Trust no one and do research.

Oh, I'm researching, all right. Trust me.

Buckle up everyone, because Nice Ravens has taken the backseat temporarily. Furious Ravens is here, so y'all had better shut the hell up and listen.
(This is another side of me. This angry side will appear regularly as I see fit. Get used to it. I can't be pleasant all the time.)

 Funny how many of the same people saying Unplanned is too graphic for children to watch without an adult are also saying that minors should be allowed to get abortions without their parents consent…

Funny how you think they need their parents' consent…
Because listen here.
Some girls might have been raped. Some girls might have had sex with someone without their parents knowing about it, now they're pregnant. If the latter's family finds out, who knows how they'll react. I know that some parents are extremely disapproving of the whole sex-before-marriage thing. Who knows how they'd treat their daughter for disobeying them? Look where it's got her. She's brought shame on the whole family.
See, some girls need to get abortions without parental consent because they're afraid of their parents. Some girls are too traumatized or embarrassed about being raped that they can't bring themselves to tell anyone.

 That's epic Nutella. Just epic.

Wow. Wow. I'm gonna be honest here. I'm disappointed. Now, I can understand this coming from you, Dom. But Ella? Really? As someone who strongly believes that us girls should stand together and fight for our rights and our bodies and our lives, I'm disappointed in you.
Ella, I'm going to ask this as bluntly as possible. What if you were the one raped? And yes, I mean at your current age. Just think about that for a while. Just think how your life would be changed for the worse by not being able to get an abortion without going out of state.

It's not epic. You're not "pro-life", as you say. Someone on twitter put it best, I think. I can't remember exactly who tweeted it, but I'll edit this post to include a link and a correct quote later.
They said something along the lives of:
"Y'all think you're pro-life. You make these arguments of 'what if that baby would have grown up to find the cure for cancer?' But what if that girl you're trapping with a child would have grown up to find the cure for cancer? See, now she can't, because she's got to take care of a baby now. Those shits are expensive."

The baby is not a person yet. The baby has no personality, it is not a living being yet. When you prevent a girl from having an abortion, you're not valiantly saving the baby's life. Instead, you're ruining hers.

I mentioned earlier how I'd done some research. And here it is in its full, blazing glory:

(Source: NPR)

"…the Alabama House Tuesday passed a bill that would make it a crime for doctors to perform abortions at any stage of a pregnancy, unless a woman's life is threatened."
A crime. Really. Hm.

"'This bill is focused on that baby that's in the womb that is a person,' Collins said. 'That baby, I believe, would choose life.'"
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up. You seriously think the baby would choose life? Alright, I'm not entirely sure what the fuck kind of babies they have in Alabama, but here in Oregon, babies aren't born with a fully-grown conscience. They aren't born with the knowledge of the difference between life and death or even what the two are. And they certainly aren't born with the ability to make a decision beyond do I feel like crying in this very moment?
The baby is not a person yet. However, the woman/girl whose life you are turning to shit, is in fact a person! With thought and emotions and memories of terrible things and, believe it or not, the right to do what they want with their own fucking body! Wow! Who woulda thunk it?

"Other states, including neighboring Georgia and Mississippi, have passed laws that prohibit abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected. But Alabama's ban would apply even earlier."
Uhh, what???? Do you mean to tell me that you think a heartbeat = life???? Because you are dead wrong. Technically, a person is pronounced dead once their brain stops working, and vice versa. And before you go questioning me, let me tell you that I am the daughter of a pediatrician. I'll tell you what that means, in case your mind is too narrow to know. It means that she's a doctor. Who takes care of children. Well, technically she takes care of people ages 0-21. Some of those people, and I definitely mean teenagers, have had sex and, as a result, have gotten pregnant before they ever wanted to!
In short (ha), my mother is a doctor. So…I'd say she knows a thing or two about life and death.
Good grief. Go to medical school before you make a decision about what is a life and what is not. Honestly.
Moving on.

"The bill criminalizes abortion, meaning doctors would face felony jail time up to 99 years if convicted."
What. The. Fuck.
I—
I have no words for how unbelievably stupid this law is.
First of all, let's do some simple math.
99 years. That's a very long time to be in jail.
According to this study, the average life expectancies in 2016 for American men and women were 76.2 and 81.1 years, respectively.
Once you've graduated from med school, gotten your certificate, and are officially and legally able to perform abortions, you're at least well into your twenties, most likely older than that. Any number greater than, let's say, 25, added to 99, makes at least 105 years. Not many people live that long, and the life expectancy rate in the US has been dropping significantly very recently.
This, put very simply, means that they're in jail for life. All because they pursued what they enjoyed (in this case, medicine) and helped a woman live her life freely?

"There are no exceptions for cases of rape or incest."
That. That right there makes me want to cry. And I do, because that is so fucked up that I can't even breathe.
How fucked up can you be to even suggest a horrible thing like that? How?!
Do you seriously believe that a 12-year-old girl should have to carry her rapist's baby around, even after it's been birthed?!

"'If you make abortion illegal somewhere that doesn't mean that abortion goes away,' says [Amanda] Reyes. 'It just becomes more difficult and more dangerous to access.'"
Reyes is absolutely, 1000% right.
Women can and will travel to a different state to get that thing out of them. But it can be very, very dangerous, especially if they're still residents of states where abortion is illegal. So, Alabama, get ready, because your female population is about to sink faster than my heart has.

(Source: newsweek.com)

“Local newspapers published personal essays from over 200 Alabama women after the state signed the nation’s strictest anti-abortion law, making it a felony for doctors to perform the procedure even in cases of rape and incest."
Again, sick. Just absolutely messed up. Can you imagine having to live with the family member that you, intentionally or not, had sex with? Can you imagine having to give birth to their child. Disgusting. Completely disgusting. But hooray to those women who sent in their letters.

"In the state Senate, all 25 votes in favor of the bill came from white men."
And I hate every single one of them with a fiery passion. I hope their wives all divorce them.

"Many celebrities and activists took to social media to highlight the irony of a group of male legislators making decisions about women’s bodies and reproductive health."
It is quite ironic, isn't it?

"'Of those 25 men who voted to ban abortion in Alabama, I’d like to know how many of them have ever been pregnant. Or have gotten pregnant as a result of rape. I’d like to know how many of those men know exactly what it is like to be a woman. The answer is zero,' comedian Chelsea Handler tweeted."
What a queen. This is the kind of person we want running our country. Not that orangey idiot.
I want every single one of you who reads this to go reread Chelsea's statement again. Think about that for a bit.

"Mommy, your choice doesn't feel so good"? More like "Society, your choice is literally killing us."

We will have children when and if we want to have children. End. Of. Discussion.

TL;DR: Go back up to the top and read the entire thing.

Ravens out.

@Pickles group

I'm sorry, but you can't say something like that here, knowing that most of us here are pro life and then tell us we can't debate it with you. That's rude, and this isn't that chat.

@The-N-U-T-Cracker

…Yeah, I read through all of that and I’m still very, very, extremely supportive of the new laws. Sure, a few of them might be slightly overkill, but it makes me so freaking joyful knowing that in the land of arches, BBQ and meth addicts, not everyone is a complete idiot and good people are finally taking a stand for the lives- Yes, lives- of these unborn human babies, like my faith in humanity is almost restored, I’m so proud of my state, this means the world to me, I could cry-

I’ll go into more detail later once I’ve calmed down, right now I’m still way too happy and emotional to try and argue without actually tearing up because of how much I love this state, how much I love living here, how lucky I am to be alive, everything-

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Hey Ravens, I understand this is an emotional subject. But please refrain from calling others cowards and the like behavior. Perhaps you just overreacted as you were filled with passion. If so, I understand and I know Nutella will as well. Just try to keep it chill, here especially.

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

If anyone wants I can set up a private chat where we can talk about it outside this thread. Only the people who want to now, and out of the way so no one has to see it if they don't want to. It will come up again. It always will. But we can keep it quiet on the open places a little while longer.

@ravens

oh my— okay. listen. i wasn't just talking to you guys. I am telling that to the whole world. Yes, I am filled with passion about this. This is something I feel very strongly about, and I'm not going to change my mind about it. I do not feel bad for posting that, but you should know I didn't mean it as an attack on anyone here. I'm sorry if that's what it seemed like. I was having a bad day and then just tipped me over the top. Maybe I overreacted, but everything I said I believe to be true.

What I said doesn't mean that I don't like you all. I love you and you're still my friends, but it's inevitable that I disagree with some of your opinions.

(sorry if the order of things in this post seems a bit random, I'm just saying things as I think of them.)

I'm not trying to make excuses about what I said. But I think it's fair that you know that I wrote that at 3 in the morning, I was not in the best emotional state, and I tend to be very direct and straightforward when I don't have enough sleep. Again, it's not an excuse, just something I thought you should know.

And I never said you couldn't debate about it???? where did you get that from????

And yeah, okay, maybe coward wasn't the right word to use, and I apologize for that. I am sorry.

And maybe I did come off as rude, but you know what? I've been raised to be a nice girl. I've been taught that the way to succeed in life is to be polite and not say anything that could be perceived as rude or disrespectful. But y'know, that is not always true. I was not trying to be rude. I am not a rude person. However, it does not mean that I will not be very honest every once in a while. It may not be "polite", but it certainly is true and what I believe. I will not lie about my feelings on this topic. It might seem a bit stupid to refer to Divergent, but a character from that series once said that "politeness is deception in pretty packaging." This world is not perfect, it is not pretty, and I'm not afraid to speak my mind on this matter.

I understand that not everyone sees eye-to-eye on this subject, and that's okay. I'm not going to force you to change your minds, but who knows? maybe (and please note that I say this the least bit condescendingly as I can) someone learned something. It's okay. I'm not here to debate. But I do like sharing knowledge with people, and gods, i sound super condescending right now. I truly don't mean to sound like that.

I most likely will think of other things to add to this later, but I am exhausted, I feel dead, and I feel like I'm hallucinating atm. So please, bear with me for a bit while I regain my mental health.

@ravens

please don't hate me

a private chat sounds good, but I've poured my thoughts out and I pretty much have nothing much more to say.
I will probably not be so emotional on this subject for a very long time after this because I'm not used to saying things like that and I'll probably be a little shocked at myself for a while.

I can't say anything else right now because i'm literally shaking and i'm scared.
i'll come back to this once i've stopped panicking.

@The-N-U-T-Cracker

We don’t hate you, not even slightly.

…Honestly, I don’t think it’s even physically possible to hate you. You’re an amazing bean, regardless of your political opinions.
