(You got it right!)
Essar turned. "Arlo! Son of a gun! How've you been doing?"
(You got it right!)
Essar turned. "Arlo! Son of a gun! How've you been doing?"
(Essar's outside in the city. Everyone else is on the ship.)
Grinning with the reckless abandon running into an old friend always gave her, Arlo clasped his forearm tight in the traditional Mando version of a handshake. She pulled her helmet off so as to meet his eyes properly, looking him up and down with the exasperated pride of an older sibling.
"Ahh, kicking around, here and there. Making creds where I can. Joining uprisings by accident. The usual, vod. You look like you're on a mission - tell me I'm not gonna have to jump in to save your shebs again, kiddo."
"Hell no!" He said, grinning. He lowered his voice. "I am on a mission though."
(Also, do they know each other from the rebellion too, or just as friends?)
(Essar's outside in the city. Everyone else is on the ship.)
(Oh, duh. I'm so smart… ;P)
(They've probably worked with each other on missions for the rebellion - I feel like Arlo's fought on his side from time to time even though she's not devoted to the rebellion in any way..)
Raising both eyebrows in subtle surprise, she nodded. "Right. Let me guess, assassination? No, you don't have enough kit to do it well. Infiltration, then. Meeting up with a contact? Don't leave me in the dark like this, Tamra."
(Essar's outside in the city. Everyone else is on the ship.)
(Oh, duh. I'm so smart… ;P)
(Shhh, you're okay, don't worry about it)
"Ah - right," Arlo amended. "Very delicate situation, I'm assuming. We can talk via private comm channel - you still have my comm frequency, right?"
(K :)
"Well, I'm not killing anyone. I'm not even with the rebellion anymore…" He smiled sheepishly. "And yeah, I do have your frequency."
"Oh, tell me you haven't gone soft in your rebellion years… wait." His last sentence registered in her head. "You aren't? Ah, what happened, vod? I know I never was anything more than a mild sympathizer, but you… you threw yourself into that cause." She tilted her head, as if it would help her understand a bit better. "You look tired now. More so."
"Yeah, listen, I'm on my way to scout a spot, maybe join and I'll fill you in?"
This guy, she thought with a fond exasperation, always knew how to drag her into things. Huffing goodnaturedly, she nodded once. "Okay. I'll bite, Tamra. But you'd better make it good, yeah? I was in the middle of a ten minute break from adventure." She leaned down and picked up her heavy repeater, slinging it onto her back. She took a step back, gesturing to him in a well, lead the way sort of fashion. "Oya manda," she enthused.
He nodded. "So where do I start?" He said, weaving through the crowd.
(Also, what does Oya manda mean?)
(It's a Mandalorian phrase - it's a sort of cheer, you know, often said to pump up Mandos. It's an emotional, solidarity-like sort of phrase. It comes from "oya!" which means "let's hunt/hooray/go you/etc." It's my favorite mando phrase tbh)
"Well, it sounds like there are a ton of places to start from. How about this: if you're not about to kill someone, what are you doing? I like to have a dossier before I take part in a mission, but for you, I'll settle for word-of-mouth recaps." Arlo followed closely, glancing over the different faces, alert as always.
(Here's a nice little dictionary for Mando'a - I use it a lot, haha. http://www.mandoa.org/ )
(Yuss! Thank you! I'm a Mado enthusiast so this is great!)
"Well, I've currently got a crew and we're just kind of going to screw the empire a lot, but we received a distress signal from a kid who figured out her parents are deep in it with the senator di'kuts, so we're rescuing her."
Meanwhile Winter was waiting to jump into action. The girl hadn't responded or felt anything for a little while, so Winter didn't know if she was alive, let alone just ignoring her. She hoped desperately for the second one.
Shiloh noticed Winter's conflicting expression. "What's wrong?" she asked worriedly.
"Ahhh - altruism. I like that. Very honorbound Supercommando of you - it does me proud. So it's just a quick hop over to her place to get her out? That's manageable. I'd like to shoot a senator." Arlo paused, realization flickering in her eyes. A slow half-smile found its way to her face. "Well, vod - you may have left the rebellion, but you haven't left behind its ideals."
"Yeah, but I had reasons to leave." He paused. "This is the place." He said, gesturing to the walled country house. "We need to check what they've got for security and how best to get in."
Winter looked up at Shiloh with tears in her eyes, "The girl hasn't responded to anything. Nothing. I don't know if she's ignoring me, or if she's- she's- dead…"
Elias saw tears start to fall from Winter's face. He got up, and sat beside her, and put his arm around her. "Shh. It's ok. I know this girl is trying to connect with you somehow, and she's breaking you mentally. I'm here. It's ok to break. It's ok to let your guard down here. I got you…"
"Hm. Rebellion screw you over? I wouldn't have trusted them, vod." She looked up at the walls enclosing the property, whistling lowly. "So, this. What's the plan here? Scale the wall and… what? Got blueprints of this place?"
"Yeah, kind of." He said as he scanned the wall. "As for plan, right now I'm just doing reconnaissance and no, I don't have blueprints." He looked the wall again. "I'm going to quick climb up and see what we're dealing with, and then we head back to my ship."
"Copy," Arlo replied, turning and hefting her repeater into prime firing position. "I'll keep watch. Let you know if anything goes wrong. Be quick, now."
