“Yeah, just tired I think.” He wrapped an arm around Lydia.
“Yeah, just tired I think.” He wrapped an arm around Lydia.
Lydia leaned in even farther, until she was about as close to Trent as she could get. Trent was the first person who had hugged her besides her brother in years.
Trent hugged her tightly. “I find something about you quite odd, dwarf.”
“Most people do.”
He chuckled. That’s not what I meant. I want to know why I’m willing to stretch myself so far to protect you even though I met you this morning. It feels like sorcery is at play.”
“Jeez… we only met this morning.” Lydia said quietly. “It feels like I’ve known you since I was a little kid…..”
“My feelings exactly, dwarf.” Trent replied, releasing her from his hug.
Lydia reluctantly let go. She stayed sitting what was probably uncomfortably close.
Trenton took note of this, starting to laugh. “Do you need more hugs?”
Lydia nodded pathetically, laughing as well.
Trent pulled her into another tight hug. “You’ve ruined my tough reputation.”
“What tough reputation?” Lydia asked, feeling a lump rise in her throat, although she wasn’t sure why.
“Are you suggesting I am not a bad boy?” Trent fake gasped.
“Awww, that’s cute.” Lydia said, jokingly.
“I’m very scary. Blair was scared of me!” He complained.
“Mm-hmmm.”
“I am!” Trent insisted. “Now turn around. I want to braid your hair.”
Lydia cooperated, and turned around.
“Only the scariest teens can braid hair.” Trent laughed.
Lydia laughed, “You know, I never learned how to braid hair.”
“Do you want me to teach you?” Trent asked softly.
Lydia blushed. “It’s fine, you don’t have to.”
“It’s not hard!” He insisted, smiling warmly.
Lydia nodded, grateful that she had Trent as a friend.
“So you part the hair into three strands.” He explained, parting her hair as he did so.
